🎶 We are beginning our 2026–27 scholarship announcements!
Over the coming weeks, we will introduce the recipients of this year’s Atken Armenian Foundation Fellowships, Scholarships, Young Artist Awards and Musical Instrument Bank support and share a little about what each young artist has accomplished and what our support will make possible in the year ahead.
We begin with one of our two Full Fellowship recipients: Anna Karslyan, a young Armenian contralto from Ninotsminda, Javakhk (Javakheti), Georgia, who has just completed an extraordinary first year at McGill University in Montreal.
From Handel’s Alcina at Opera McGill to Puccini’s Suor Angelica at Prague Summer Nights, a perfect academic record, and major renewed scholarship support from McGill, Anna has had quite a year.
Through the Haig and Virginia Misakyan Fellowship, the Atken Armenian Foundation will continue to cover Anna’s room and board and remaining tuition expenses for 2026–27, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the Misakyan family of Toronto.

Anna arrived at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, last autumn to begin her Bachelor of Music after a year of preparatory work with her mentor, Armenian-Canadian soprano Aline Kutan. She immediately made her mark.

🎶 This year’s Zartonk Music Academy brought together 44 talented young musicians from across Armenia, all of whom attended on a full scholarship, thanks to the generous support of Professor Arpi Hamalian of Montreal, Canada. 🇨🇦
Under the artistic direction of internationally acclaimed soprano Hasmik Papian, the Zartonk Academy continues to offer some of Armenia’s finest young musical talents the opportunity to receive intensive training with outstanding musicians and teachers. An exceptional project of the Atken Armenian Foundation, the Academy has become an important part of our work supporting the next generation of Armenian musicians. 🎻🎹🎤
The level this year was extremely high. Several of the participants already receive individualized financial assistance from the Foundation, and we hope in the coming year to be able to support even more of these remarkable young artists as they continue their studies and careers.
Our participants also gave audiences wonderful musical moments at two very well-attended concerts at the Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan. 🎼
A very special thank you goes to the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, which generously provided the spaces and concert hall for our masterclasses, lessons and performances. This partnership is an excellent example of collaboration between a Diaspora organization and a state institution for the benefit of the future generation in Armenia. 🇦🇲
We are proud of all 44 of these young musicians and look forward to following where their talent takes them. ✨

🎶 Այս տարի «Զարթոնք Ակադեմիան» Հայաստանի տարբեր շրջաններից համախմբեց 44 տաղանդավոր երիտասարդ երաժիշտների, որոնք բոլորն էլ ակադեմիային մասնակցեցին ամբողջական կրթաթոշակով՝ Կանադայի Մոնրեալ քաղաքից պրոֆեսոր Արփի Համալեանի առատաձեռն աջակցության շնորհիվ։ 🇨🇦
Միջազգային ճանաչում ունեցող սոպրանո Հասմիկ Պապյանի գեղարվեստական ղեկավարությամբ «Զարթոնք Ակադեմիան» շարունակում է Հայաստանի լավագույն երիտասարդ երաժիշտներից մի քանիսին բացառիկ հնարավորություն ընձեռել՝ ինտենսիվ ուսուցում ստանալու անվանի երաժիշտների և մանկավարժների մոտ։ Լինելով «Ատգեն Արմենյան Հիմնադրամ»-ի բացառիկ ծրագրերից մեկը՝ ակադեմիան դարձել է հայ երիտասարդ երաժիշտների հաջորդ սերնդին աջակցելու մեր աշխատանքի կարևոր մասը։ 🎻🎹🎤
Այս տարի մասնակիցների մակարդակը չափազանց բարձր էր։ Նրանցից մի քանիսն արդեն Հիմնադրամից ստանում են անհատական ֆինանսական աջակցություն, և հուսով ենք, որ գալիք տարում կկարողանանք աջակցել այս տաղանդավոր երիտասարդներից էլ ավելի շատերին՝ նրանց ուսման և մասնագիտական ճանապարհի ընթացքում։
Մեր մասնակիցները նաև հրաշալի երաժշտական պահեր պարգևեցին հանդիսատեսին Երևանի Կոմիտասի անվան պետական կոնսերվատորիայում կայացած երկու բազմամարդ համերգների ընթացքում։ 🎼
Հատուկ շնորհակալություն ենք հայտնում Երևանի Կոմիտասի անվան պետական կոնսերվատորիային, որը մեծահոգաբար տրամադրեց տարածքներն ու համերգասրահը մեր վարպետության դասերի, պարապմունքների և ելույթների համար։ Այս համագործակցությունը Սփյուռքի կազմակերպության և պետական հաստատության միջև համագործակցության հիանալի օրինակ է՝ ի նպաստ Հայաստանի ապագա սերնդի։ 🇦🇲

We are pleased to share this new 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝘄 feature on Armenian flutist 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗯𝘆𝗮𝗻, following her prize at 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲. 🎶🇦🇲

Several years ago, the 𝗔𝘁𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 helped fund an important portion of the purchase of the high-quality flute Elen continues to play today. Her remarkable progress is a wonderful example of what timely support for a gifted young musician can help make possible. ✨

Supporting young talent is not simply about meeting an immediate need. It can open doors, strengthen confidence, and contribute to achievements that unfold over many years. 🌱🎼

Unlike young Armenian men in the diaspora, young men in Armenia are required to complete military service. Today, one of our gifted students, kamancha player Samvel Zaqoyan, begins eighteen months in which the risks and responsibilities he carries are far greater than anything most of us abroad are asked to bear.

At the Atken Armenian Foundation, this reality reminds us to support Armenia with humility and grace. Diasporan organizations and individuals too often criticize the political choices made by Armenian citizens while remaining distant from the consequences of those choices—the lives and futures of Armenia’s sons and daughters.

We wish Samvel a peaceful and safe service. We believe in him and will continue to support him.

We also invite Armenians in the diaspora to look beyond the noise of opposition to the choices made by Armenia’s citizens. We should either choose to live there and share fully in the country’s responsibilities, or support every Samvel who is called upon to risk his life for the continued reality of the Armenian state.

Armenia is not merely a romantic part of our imagination. It is a living reality built through obligation and sacrifice. Diasporans have obligations; Armenian citizens carry both obligations and sacrifice. We, as diasporans, must understand the difference.

Ի տարբերություն սփյուռքում ապրող հայ երիտասարդների՝ Հայաստանի երիտասարդ տղաները պարտավոր են անցնել զինվորական ծառայություն։ Այսօր մեր տաղանդավոր սաներից մեկը՝ քամանչահար Samvel Zaqoyan Սամվել Զաքոյանը, սկսում է իր տասնութամսյա ծառայությունը՝ ստանձնելով այնպիսի պատասխանատվություն և վտանգ, որոնց մեծ մասին մեզանից շատերը՝ արտերկրում ապրողներս, երբեք չեն առնչվում։

Ատգեն Արմենյան Հիմնադրամում այս իրականությունը մեզ մշտապես հիշեցնում է, որ Հայաստանին պետք է աջակցել խոնարհությամբ և արժանապատվությամբ։ Սփյուռքահայ բազմաթիվ կազմակերպություններ և անհատներ հաճախ քննադատում են Հայաստանի քաղաքացիների քաղաքական ընտրությունները՝ հեռու մնալով այդ ընտրությունների իրական հետևանքներից՝ Հայաստանի որդիների և դուստրերի կյանքի ու ապագայի համար։

Սամվելին մաղթում ենք խաղաղ և անվտանգ ծառայություն։ Մենք հավատում ենք նրան և շարունակելու ենք աջակցել նրան։

Միաժամանակ կոչ ենք անում սփյուռքահայերին տեսնել Հայաստանի քաղաքացիների ընտրությունների դեմ բարձրացած աղմուկից այն կողմ։ Մենք պետք է կամ ընտրենք ապրել Հայաստանում և ամբողջությամբ կիսել երկրի պատասխանատվությունները, կամ աջակցենք յուրաքանչյուր Սամվելի, ով կոչված է վտանգելու իր կյանքը՝ հանուն հայկական պետության գոյության և շարունակականության։

Հայաստանը մեր երևակայության ռոմանտիկ պատկերը չէ։ Այն կենդանի իրականություն է, որը կառուցվում է պարտավորություններով և զոհողություններով։ Սփյուռքահայերն ունեն պարտավորություններ, իսկ Հայաստանի քաղաքացիները կրում են և՛ պարտավորություններ, և՛ զոհողություններ։ Մենք՝ որպես սփյուռքահայեր, պարտավոր ենք հասկանալ այս տարբերությունը։
