In his latest book, “Into the Loop: An Ethnography of Compulsive Repetition”, Assistant Professor Samuele Collu (Department of Anthropology) explores how we can interrupt the repetitions that define us. Drawing upon over 200 hours of ethnographic observations of Systemic couples therapy that Collu undertook in Buenos Aires, Argentina during his PhD, and Collu’s own hypnotherapy sessions, Into the Loop is described by Collu as a personal attempt to make sense of the “existential disorientation” he was experiencing.

Congratulations to Professor Myriam Denov from the School of Social Work who has received the Governor General’s Innovation Award for pioneering participatory research approaches with war-affected youth in Asia, Africa and the Americas.

Nominated by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), Denov’s pioneering research addresses the ethics of how scholars engage with marginalized children—particularly youth affected by war—by implementing innovative, responsible, and ethical participatory methodologies to radically expand youth empowerment in research.
