Music supports early math skills through rhythm and pattern!
Did you know how important “sequencing” is in child development? “Sequencing” is essentially putting things in order, whether it’s from smallest to largest, or first to last. It’s actually critical for the development of emerging math skills, reading skills, and more.
Music, in addition to being an important life skill on its own, can also help children develop sequencing abilities. For example, when we sing songs like “Don Alfredo Baila,” there’s a specific order to the verses and the actions. This clear order, and our repetition of the order, supports the development of sequencing skills. So, when you’re singing and dancing to this song at home, remember that you’re not only supporting your child’s musical growth but their cognitive growth, as well.

For example, babies may have tiny hands but they are ready for big learning. Exploring and playing shakers helps promote motor development and tactile stimulation.

Why Mixed Age classes help social skills blossom.
These mixed-aged family music classes are at the core of Music Together®, and are open to children of all abilities, from 0-5 years of age. Original and engaging songs will be learned by parent and child. This model fosters natural, family-style learning, where the parent is as involved as (if not more so than) their child. Having a mixed-age group allows older children to develop leadership skills, and for the younger children to learn through watching and listening. Children learn in many different ways (playing, listening, watching, etc), and can participate at their own level. There is no pressure to perform.

Did you know babies recognize melodies before they recognize words?
When you sing to your baby, they are processing not just what they are hearing but also what they are seeing. Your baby's brain’s auditory cortex and visual cortex are working together to make sense of patterns—such as when they hear you sing an ohh sound and sees your mouth make the ohh shape. So, sing to your baby face-to-face sometimes, so that they can both hear and see you sing. You’ll not only be connecting with your baby up close through music—which is a lovely experience in itself—but also helping their brain develop stronger neural connections.

Why Mixed Age classes work: siblings learn together, babies learn from big kids, and big kids learn to lead.
You may have heard it said that children teach themselves through play. But play is not just about having fun. Play is the primary method young children use to learn and grow physically, emotionally, cognitively, and socially. And when they play with music, they can also learn the complex skills of singing in tune and accurately expressing rhythm in their bodies. Therefore, one of the best ways that you can support your child’s learning is to offer a lot of opportunities to play freely and play with you. In a Mixed-Age class, you have the added benefits of siblings learning together, babies learning from big kids and big kids learning to lead. This class is a great place to start!

🎼 How Babies Learn Through Music
Babies’ brains are wired for music from birth. Research shows that rhythm and melody help organize early neural pathways, supporting memory, attention, and emotional regulation. In our Music Together Babies class, parents learn how to use simple, repetitive songs that match how infants naturally learn.
