Weâd love to hear from you! đ
Throughout the fall 2025 and winter 2026 semesters, we hosted 7 conversations across different community spaces in Montreal, including a museum, bookstore, art gallery, and community organization. Across these gatherings, we explored different forms, histories, and practices of Indigenous and Black activism.
We always do our best to make these conversations welcoming, engaging, and grounded in care, but none of this is possible without the people who join us in the space â€ïž
If you attended one of our conversations, or even simply heard about them, we would really appreciate your feedback. Whether itâs about the themes, the vibe of the spaces, accessibility, food, or anything else, weâd truly love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

On May 12, we came together to celebrate all of the learning, relationships, and experiences that emerged through our Community-Based Internship Program! âš
Throughout the Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 semesters, the Office of Community Engagement and the SHIFT Centre for Social Transformation connected Concordia students from different disciplines with 24 community organizations across Montréal. Through these internships, students engaged in deeply experiential learning, applying what they learned in the classroom to real community work through communications, programming, research, organizing, and more.
Many of these experiences were highlighted during our âLessons across Communitiesâ showcase. It was such a privilege to witness the creativity and care behind the student submissions, from photography and artistic projects to homemade bannock and jam. đ«¶
A huge thank you to all of the students, community partners, and mentors who made this year of learning possible.
Curious about internship opportunities in the coming semesters? Make sure to follow us for updates on future placements. đ«

Hereâs a little recap from our last conversation đ€
As we wrapped up the final conversation of the Winter 2026 season, we gathered to reflect on stories and experiences of activism, and the many ways it shows up in our lives, in the lives of those who came before us, and in the communities around us.
A huge thank you to Librairie Livresse for once again hosting us in such a warm and welcoming space. Weâre so grateful to have returned for a second conversation there this season đ€
Most of all, thank you to everyone who attended and shared space with us throughout the fall and winter semesters. It has been such an honour to learn, reflect, and explore Black and Indigenous activism in its many forms together.
Until next season!!!

Some moments from our last conversation at the Centre d'art daphne! âš
This gathering invited us to reflect on racialized labour and rest as a form of resistance, challenging systems that prioritize productivity over well-being. Together, we held space for stories, practices, and ways of caring for ourselves and our communities.
In collaboration with the Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery, our conversation was shaped by the Labour exhibition, where the works move through labour, rage, and rest while highlighting experiences of systemic and racialized violence.
If you havenât yet, this is your sign to visit the exhibition (LB-165) and spend time with it! đŒïž
Huge thanks to Chef Swaneige for the food that nourished us and the conversation.
Grateful as well to the daphne art centre for holding the space, to the Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery for the collaboration, and to everyone who shared with us đ€
See you at the next one!

Today weâre celebrating two of our amazing student staff. A huge shoutout to Jon Marvin and Zariah Williams, recipients of the Concordia University's Engagement Awards! đ
The Concordia Engagement Awards recognize students, staff, and faculty for their outstanding contributions to student life, volunteerism, safety, and sustainability at the University. This yearâs ceremony took place on April 15.
Jon Marvin received the Volunteer Recognition Award for his work with Centre Kapwa. Through initiatives like Kapwa Walk, he has created spaces across Montreal that foster belonging for Filipinx, migrant, LGBTQIA+, and racialized communities. đ«¶
Zariah received the Sustainability Champion Award for her commitment to diversity and social equity. She has been actively involved with the Sustainability and Diversity Students Association and co-created Roots and Recipes, a cookbook that highlights local sourcing, healthy eating, and cultural identity, now in its second volume. đ±
Beyond the organizations and communities they are part of, we at the Office of Community Engagement and SHIFT Centre for Social Transformation are so proud of you both!
