Welcome to the MUHC's annual Global Surgery Conference! Brought to you by the Centre for Global Surgery and the Montreal General Hospital Foundation. Through a collaborative effort between students and health professionals from the McGill University Health Centre, we aim to provide a forum to discuss the various challenges and approaches to global surgery. We are truly honoured to host such a dive

rse and experienced group of speakers and we hope that you will enjoy participating in this enriching forum among many world leaders in the field of global surgery. Background:

Surgically treatable conditions are significant contributors to morbidity and mortality worldwide. For decades global health has been the subject of much discussion and debate in the medical world, yet global surgery is often omitted from these conversations. Within the past year, the medical community has increasingly recognized access to essential surgical care to be a core component of all health systems, as demonstrated by the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery and recent WHO initiatives. By hosting the Global Surgery Conference, we intend to bring attention to the surgical component of global health and to facilitate discussion between practicing and future health practitioners. To highlight the value and importance of surgery in global health and to facilitate discussion between students and current healthcare professionals
ii. To expose students and healthcare professionals to various experiences and opportunities in global surgery
iii. To open dialogue and encourage discussion regarding the different challenges and approaches to surgery in global health
iv. To provide students with opportunities to present relevant research and encourage networking to enhance collaboration on global surgery projects

Continuing Education:

This event is approved for up to 6.25 credits by the Office for Continuing Health Professional Education (CHPE). The Office for CHPE, Faculty of Medicine, McGill University is fully accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Education (CACME). This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Through an agreement between the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert Royal College MOC credits to AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Information on the process to convert Royal College MOC credit to AMA credit can be found at http://www.ama-assn.org/go/internationalcme. Each physician should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The 11th edition of the conference will be hybrid (in person and virtual) and open to all trainees locally and internationally.

Those attending in person will get free food and an opportunity to network with staff and residents involved in Global Surgery.

We are happy to launch the 11th Edition of the MUHC x CGSTA Annual Conference of Global Surgery - The Building Blocks of Global Surgery!

The conference will include talks, workshops and poster presentations about education, innovation, research, ethics and advocacy in Global Surgery and Global Health.

We are now calling for abstracts surrounding those topics! So if you want to showcase and your research work please do so before March 8th by submitting using the QR code or via the link in bio.

FYI: The Conference will be both in-person at the New Residence Hall, Montréal and on Zoom, so we accept abstracts for presentation in-person and presentations on Zoom!
