Since 1998, Cheryl has been teaching English at McGill, bringing innovation and insight to her classroom. By exploring the intersection of language, sound systems, and musical structure, she empowers her students with the tools to build confidence and communicate effectively in professional settings. Our learners consistently describe Cheryl as inspiring, supportive, and deeply committed, praising her thoughtful feedback and her ability to create a positive learning environment.

This week, our Dean, Carola Weil, participated in the panel “A Dialogue on Purpose: Merging Expertise with Philanthropy” at the Philanthropy for Hope event hosted by UNHCR Canada at McGill University.

Carola shared insights on how academic institutions can deliver practical, flexible, and scalable learning solutions that respond to evolving workforce and community needs. She also highlighted the role of online learning in expanding access to education for refugees and forcibly displaced communities.

An important conversation on impact, access, and cross-sector collaboration.

Congratulations to Shibl Mourad on receiving McGill University’s highest distinction, the honorary doctorate, at yesterday’s Spring 2026 Convocation ceremony.

A leader in artificial intelligence and co-founder of the Google DeepMind Montreal lab, Shibl has played a key role in advancing AI research while helping position Montreal as a global innovation hub. His work continues to bridge cutting-edge science with meaningful social impact.

Shibl's strong connection to McGill and SCS, including his significant contributions to developing and teaching our AI programs, makes this recognition especially meaningful for our community.
