🌟 McGill Toastmasters Summer Adventure! 🌟

On August 3rd, our members and friends came together for an unforgettable day at Oka Park. We hiked through beautiful trails, enjoyed a delicious BBQ, played volleyball, went for a swim, and ended the day with some well-deserved ice cream! 🍦☀️

The best part? It wasn’t just about the activities — it was about connecting, sharing laughs, and creating memories as a community.

Important Announcement
Due to McGill University being closed on the next two Tuesdays for provincial and national holidays — June 24 (St. Jean Baptiste Day) and July 1 (Canada Day) — McGill Toastmasters will take a break on those dates.
Club meetings will resume on Tuesday, July 8.

🎉 Election Week at McGill Toastmasters! 🎉

This week, McGill Toastmasters held its annual elections—and what a night it was! 🗳️

We had the great honor of welcoming Louise Veronique, a former member, who returned to lead the election process with grace and enthusiasm.

We’re excited to introduce our 2025–2026 Executive Team:

✨ President: Marcus — Re-elected to continue developing his leadership and guiding the club with passion.
📚 VP Education: Lanese and Kousalya — New additions to the team who will collaborate closely to support our members’ learning and growth.
🤝 VP Membership: Jean-Jacques — Stepping into this role with the goal of making new members feel welcome and growing our community.
📱 VP Public Relations: Mariam — Re-elected and ready to amplify our club’s presence on social media with her love for sharing and connecting.
📝 Secretary: Ouafa — Re-elected to keep us organized while also practicing her English listening and note-taking skills.
💰 Treasurer: Lila — Proudly re-elected after 24 years in this role! As a club founder, she says our members are like her babies 👶.
🛠️ Sergeant at Arms: Johnny — Our superhero is back for another term, now supported by Maranatha, a new member joining him to manage our meetings with care. 🙌

To celebrate, the new executive team shared a warm dinner together—like a true family. 💛

🎤 McGill Toastmasters Recap – Theme: “Reignite the Spark” 🔥

This week, we reignited the spark with an energetic and inspiring meeting!

✨ Jean-Jacques, who just joined the McGill Toastmasters family, took on the role of Chairperson for the first time—and did a fantastic job! He warmly welcomed guests, introduced the roles, presented the theme, and wrapped up the evening by announcing the winners.

🧠 Zahraa, also a new member, shared a thoughtful Moment of Reflection, encouraging us to reflect on our perseverance and dedication to being present at Toastmasters meetings.

😄 Our current president Boyan delivered a Moment of Humor, stepping into a brand-new path for him with laughter and charm.

🎶 Holly, another new member, gave a heartfelt Toast to Music, reminding us of its power to inspire.

🌟 Ouafa was the Toastmaster of the Night, guiding us through the meeting with clarity and energy, and introducing the Educational Session where she explained the Toastmasters Pathways program.

🗣️ Kosalya, in her first time as Table Topics Master, led the session with confidence and creativity—an incredible job for a first-timer!

😂 Peyman delivered a hilarious speech about “Fair”, keeping us all laughing.

🧬 Maryam Razaei shared a fascinating speech on how machine learning is transforming Alzheimer’s research, drawing from her own PhD work—truly insightful and thought-provoking.

📚 Maranatha, another new member, was our Grammarian. He chose the word “curious” and delivered a rich and thoughtful report at the end of the meeting, recognizing language and learning moments from everyone.

🧾 Marcus served as the General Evaluator, offering valuable feedback to all speakers and ensuring a constructive and supportive environment.

🥳 We ended the night with our Post-Toasties—a fun group dinner to celebrate everyone’s achievements! Special thanks to Javier, one of our guests, who delivered a spontaneous and joyful Toast to Food! 🥘

This Week at McGill Toastmasters!

The theme of the evening was “New Horizons”, skillfully led by Marcus as Chairperson and Boyan as Toastmaster of the Day.

Lanese served as Grammarian and introduced the word of the day: refrem.
Holy shared a valuable tip, reminding us to focus on delivering our message.
Valerie offered a thoughtful Moment of Reflection, sharing the story of the inventor of Instagram.
Ouafa brought laughter with a humorous story about her origins.
Esra delivered a heartfelt toast to peace in the world.

Myriam took on the role of Table Topics Master, sparking spontaneous and engaging responses from the audience.
Maryam began her own journey into new horizons by delivering her Ice Breaker Speech, just two weeks after joining the club!
Boyan continued his Toastmasters growth with an Ice Breaker from his second path: Humour.

Lila was the General Evaluator, providing insightful feedback on the entire meeting.

We wrapped up this dynamic evening by celebrating our President Boyan’s birthday!

The theme of our last meeting was “Spring Is in the Air.”

Maryam, our Chairperson, spoke about Persian New Year.
Valerie, our Grammarian, chose “procrastination” as the Word of the Day.
Marcus shared a public speaking tip on the importance of “looping” when closing a speech.
For the Moment of Humor, Maryam entertained us with a funny story from her sister’s shop.
Lila gave a heartfelt toast to Canada and the union of Canadians.
Ouafa, our Toastmaster, reflected on how the theme took her back to her roots.
Sarah, our Table Topics Master, challenged us with fun and nostalgic Toys “R” Us-themed questions. 🧸
Boyan delivered an inspirational speech on living and leadership, which was evaluated by Marcus.
Johnny, our General Evaluator, provided insightful and instructive feedback on the entire meeting.

It was a fantastic session filled with learning, laughter, and inspiration! See you at the next meeting.
