Newgrange was built around 3200 BC, before Stonehenge and the pyramids of Giza.

Aujourd’hui, c’est la Journée nationale de la vérité et de la réconciliation, une journée pour honorer les survivants des pensionnats autochtones et commémorer les enfants qui ne sont jamais rentrés chez eux.

C’est aussi un moment pour sensibiliser à l’histoire des peuples autochtones au Canada et aux efforts continus de réconciliation.

Je partage ici quelques pages d’un petit livre pop-up que j’ai créé pour une amie qui apprend l’abénaquis, l’une des quelque 240 langues autochtones parlées sur l’Île de la Tortue (l’Amérique du Nord). Pendant des générations, les enfants autochtones ont été punis pour avoir parlé leur langue dans les pensionnats, et beaucoup de ces langues sont aujourd’hui menacées. Les soutenir et les apprendre, c’est une façon d’honorer leur résilience et de garder ces voix bien vivantes. 🧡

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour survivors of residential schools and to commemorate the children who never returned home.

It is also a time to promote awareness of Canada’s Indigenous history and ongoing reconciliation efforts.

I’m sharing a few pages from a small pop-up book I created for a friend learning Abenaki, one of the approximately 240 Indigenous languages spoken across Turtle Island (North America). For generations, Indigenous children were punished for speaking their languages in residential schools, and many of these languages are now endangered. Supporting and learning them is one way to honour resilience and keep these voices alive. 🧡
