"Interconnecting Dialogues" is a continuation of Arts East-West's Panel Discussion series, moderated by Guy Rodgers. This panel will discuss pathways for bridging the gaps between generations and sectors in the arts, and building new bridges between cultural communities. The first session of this panel brought together Cheryl Sim, Abdul-Wahab Kayyali, Janet Lumb, Kakim Goh, and Jinwoo Park to discuss personal narratives of navigating the arts as an Asian artist. This second session will expand on an inter-generational and cross-cultural lens by including younger artists and non-Asians in the arts sector, to better discuss how to support each other.

The key themes discussed in the panel will include:
⭐ Building sustainable bridges between Asian-Canadian, anglophone, francophone, and other cultural communities
⭐ Diversity within different cultural organisations, especially in leadership positions
⭐ Pathways for continuing and deepening intercultural dialogue

Depuis sa naissance, Luca, 16 ans, est la star de l’empire d’influenceurs de ses parents, chacune de ses étapes importantes étant mise en scène pour des millions d’abonnés. Lorsqu’ils annoncent leur projet d’avoir un autre enfant, les fissures dans leur image parfaite s’élargissent. Luca sombre dans une spirale émotionnelle, se rebellant contre le rôle qu’on lui a imposé et prenant conscience du peu de contrôle qu’elle a réellement sur sa vie. Alors que la pression monte, elle doit décider si elle continue à jouer la comédie pour les réseaux sociaux ou si elle reprend sa vie en main, loin des projecteurs.

Nous avons eu l’honneur d’accueillir l’auteure Kim Thuy ce matin pour une visite intime de l’exposition Gottfried Fuchs – Plus jamais hors-jeu. En compagnie de John, le petit-fils de Gottfried et ami de longue date de Kim, elle a découvert son parcours : celui d’un joueur étoile du football des années 1900 à 1920, contraint de fuir l’Allemagne nazie avant de refaire sa vie à Montréal, au Canada. Un destin qui n’est pas sans rappeler certains aspects de la vie de Kim.

We had the honor of welcoming author Kim Thuy this morning for an intimate tour of the Gottfried Fuchs – No More Offside exhibition. Accompanied by John, Gottfried's grandson and Kim's longtime friend, she learned about his life story: that of a star football player from the 1900s to the 1920s, forced to flee N**i Germany before rebuilding his life in Montreal, Canada. A destiny that resonates with certain aspects of Kim's own life.

Son premier long métrage, le documentaire « Pornfluencer », a été nominé en 2023 pour le Prix allemand du documentaire. « Babystar » a été présenté en avant-première en 2025 au TIFF de Toronto. En 2026, le cinéaste allemand Joscha Bongard est l'un des visages de la campagne « Face to Face » actuelle de German Films. Le 2 juin, vous aurez l’occasion unique de rencontrer le cinéaste après la projection de son début de fiction « Babystar », présenté en première québécoise le 2 juin à 18 h à la Cinémathèque québécoise. « Babystar » est une critique intelligente du business des influenceurs familiaux et s'interroge sur l'influence des réseaux sociaux et de l'intelligence artificielle dans notre quotidien.

His first feature-length film, the documentary “Pornfluencer,” was nominated for the German Documentary Film Award in 2023. “Babystar”, his second feature film, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2025. In 2026, German filmmaker Joscha Bongard is one of the faces of German Films' current “Face to Face” campaign. On June 2, you’ll have the unique opportunity to meet the filmmaker following the screening of his fiction debut, “Babystar,” at 6:00 p.m. at the Cinémathèque québécoise during the Quebec premiere of the film. “Babystar” is a sharp critique of the family influencer business and examines the influence of social media and artificial intelligence on our daily lives.

Not all travel is benign. Such are the expeditions of 19th century German scientists Alexander von Humboldt and Carl Friedrich Gauss on their trips around the world which inspired Daniel Kehlmann's best-selling novel of the same name. Cloaked in a veil of curiosity is an escapade of exploitation of the lands they seek to “discover” worlds and cultures unknown to them.

The novel 𝘔𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 has been translated into over 40 languages and is one of the most successful German books of the postwar era. The author, Daniel Kehlmann, served as a co-writer on the screenplay for the film adaptation. 📖🎬

The exhibition "No More Offside" tells the story of Gottfried Fuchs, the former star whose soccer career began in Karlsruhe in 1911. It traces his life’s journey—from great athletic triumphs to the painful experience of persecution, erasure, and flight from the N**is, and finally to his new beginning in a foreign land, Canada.
