Please allow me to brag for a moment - this was the first take I recorded of Daphnis a few weeks ago for an audition tape and I think I kind of nailed it 😊

This is one of my favourite excerpts, despite how difficult it can be! It’s so flutey and beautiful and you get to keep the audience on its toes about where the music is going in every phrase.

Oh the gems Marcel Moyse left us with 🥰

This is an excerpt from Bizet's Carmen, which I really don't recognize despite having watched and listened to the whole opera before (though ... a long time ago). I was sightreading this, as an ongoing commitment to warm up with at least one page of this fantastic book every time I practice.

It is sooo helpful in developing a musical ear and working on phrasing and beauty of tone. I love that Moyse included so many vocal excerpts because who else should we turn to for phrasing tips if not singers??

Have you used this book before? Which other Moyse method books do you like? I love all of them! 🥰

Anyone else write chaotic notes (with shorthand terms that only you understand) when listening to their own recordings? 😂

Been doing lots of recordings this summer (one competition application, one audition application) and I’ve learned SO MUCH about myself and my playing, which is awesome! I’m actually excited to listen back and take notes nowadays, because I’m equally able to recognize what I did well and what I need to work on, rather than just hearing the things I didn’t like (though, there’s a lot of that haha).

Won’t let my flute practicing stop me from watching tennis!!! 🎾

For many reasons, I only watch/stream tennis live (and in person) in August and September every year and it always feels so special! It’s so hard to think about anything else when I’m watching but I still try my best to do other things at the same time lol

Anyways it’s Thursday and I’m sharing an audition clip from January! I had applied to the NACO Mentorship Program and even though I wasn’t accepted, I was quite pleased with my audition tape overall! Here is my performance of the Faune excerpt, one of my favourite orchestral pieces ever 🥰
