Whether you use beads, paints, or another medium… Organizing your palette by color wheel is ALWAYS a good idea 🌈

🎨 Reason no.1 : It’s quicker finding the color you’re looking for

🎨 Reason no.2 : Colors get less muddy if they run into each other

🎨 Reason no.3 : It’s easier to see the subtle differences in hue when they’re all right next to their closest match

Here are some tips for creating a strong BACKGROUND:

1. Keep it dynamic, but make sure the movement compliments that of the foreground.

2. Give it depth with several layers of different opacity.

3. Stick to a color palette that compliments the foreground.

4. Most importantly, your background will never be seen in entirety — it is meant to be seen in-between the focal points. So make sure the texture is interesting wherever it may show through.

[Example: Celine was commissioned to create a background on canvas, for this photo collage to be transferred onto, with space around the edges to add more photos in the future.]

ART TIP #119 ✨

Whenever you have extra paint leftover… use it up by creating a textural layer that can be saved as a pre-made background or collage material for a future piece.

By “composting” leftovers from a finished piece, you are already fertilizing your future projects! 💩🌱💩

AND reducing the waste of your time and materials! ♻️

Same goes for other disciplines… Keep the footage that doesn’t make the final cut — anything that still has potential.

Drawing Tip : Start out by working in graphite / greyscale

⬛️ 🔳 🔘 🔲 ⬜️

Train yourself in light and shadow BEFORE incorporating color.

Learn to make dynamic compositions, compelling textures, and strong contrast with ONE pencil / pen.

This is the foundational training for drawing. It’s always helpful to go back to monochrome, to tune up your observational skills or plan out preliminary drawings.

Art Lesson: Watercolor Experiments
🔸🔷🔸🔹🔶🔹🔸🔷🔸

1. SALT🧂
2. ICE 🧊

Watercolour paintings are always a record of water’s inherent behaviour, a collaboration with fluid dynamics. 🌊💦

The first painting shows the way water contracts when drawn into salt crystals… while the second painting shows the way water expands and crystallizes when frozen. ❄️

The job of an Artist is similar to that of a scientist… to study the qualities of their chosen medium, to record experiments with different combinations, and to discover new aesthetic possibilities.

You can be taught how to use your paints like the Masters, but true Artistry is in creating your own methods of using raw materials.

Mastery is the ability to turn those aha discoveries and promising experiments, into a functioning element in a successful composition.

How do you experiment with your materials? ✨🫵✨

Painting from Life — that is, painting what is ALIVE 🪴— is completely different from painting an artificial object or digital image 👾

Mother Nature embodies the beauty of life-giving PERFECTION in her harmonious proportions, vibrant colors, and sensual forms…

She simultaneously embodies the beauty of IMPERFECTION, organic forms, cycles of creation and destruction, and diversity.

As Artists, we must remember to draw from this abundant source of natural inspiration, if we are to create something ALIVE and true to our original being.

Remember to be mindful when choosing the subject of your artistic focus. 👁
