5 THINGS YOU DIDNT KNOW ABOUT ME!
1- MY MOTHER IS HUNGARIAN:
Hungary is a country in the middle of Europe, with borders onto Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Romania and Ukraine. The capital city of Hungary is Budapest, and that is my mother’s original hometown. She immigrated to the UK to be with my Father, in 1970.
2- I HAVE A FEAR IF SKATEBOARDING :
When I was around 10 years old, I was on a family visit to friends in Zurich, Switzerland, and I found a skateboard in the yard of my friends house. I decided to play on it and see if I could skateboard, being the curious little soul that I am.
I stepped on it, and instead of me rolling with it, I fell onto my coccyx bone onto the paved terrace, and passed out.
When I came to, all I remember, was my mum saying “Charlotte! What are you doing?”. And then everyone just carried on chatting amongst themselves.
To this day, amusingly, I have a fear of skateboarding.
3- I AM TERRIBLE AT MATHS:
Growing up as a child, I had extreme difficulty at learning mathematics. My brain is wired in a way that did not respond well to the way maths was taught to me at school.
I remember having extra maths lessons and a private maths tutor, just so I could make the grades, and I remember a specific moment when she was trying to help me learn how to recognize 100s from 1000s, from 10,000s and millions. She must have tried at least ten times, and each time I just didn't get it. I was so upset that I couldn’t get this simple concept.
I have grown to appreciate Maths in its usefulness, and in its purity, it has a beauty similar to that of Art.
From years of working in the film business and having to read architectural drawings, and make models at various scales, reading from drawings at a different scale than the thing that I had to build.
I have learned maths in a practical way, which has really helped me, and I have developed a friendlier relationship with it.
4- I LOVE CRUNCHY FOOD:
This is a simple pleasure, something about the noise in my head when I crunch, the breaking food, and the feeling of it breaking into smaller and smaller pieces. It’s like a mini earthquake going off in my head. Quite an amusing and playful experience sometimes.
Try it, next time you eat chips, or toast, or even a fresh carrot. Take a moment to really revel in that crunching experience, crunch on it with your mouth wide open and listen to that sound. It’s fun to play.
5- I LOVE WORDS AND STORYTELLING:
When a story is told with character, metaphor, analogy, simile, and passion, I’m on the edge of my seat, completely absorbed in the world that is being conjured up with the words before me.
For the last while, I have been learning a lot about storytelling. It’s such a beautiful way of learning / teaching. In school, I struggled so much with reading, and writing, and I had a fear of my English teacher.
Today, this has evolved into a love of words and poetic description, of finding ways of telling a story as if I’m painting a work of art. It is one of my favourite ways of expressing my creativity. The art of storytelling is now becoming more and more prominent in my life, and working with that on film is my current study, learning to use my voice, with texture and tone.
