We want to tell you about two children.

Both 9 years old. Both are bright. Both working harder than any child their age should have to. Both falling behind in ways that none of their effort could fix.

Their parents both did everything right.

They hired tutors. They sat at the homework table every night. They emailed teachers, attended meetings, bought workbooks and apps and programmes that promised results.

Child A kept getting more of the same.
More practice on this week's material. More repetition of the lessons that hadn't worked in class. More time. More patience. More of an approach that was treating the surface while the real problem sat untouched underneath.

By Grade 5 he had stopped raising his hand in class. He had started calling himself stupid. And his parents had started to wonder if this was just who he was.

Dyslexia is not a vision problem.

It's one of the most common misconceptions about dyslexia.

Because children with dyslexia may skip words, lose their place while reading, or confuse similar-looking letters, it's easy to assume the problem starts with their eyesight.

It doesn't.

Dyslexia is a language-based learning difference. It affects how the brain processes the sounds of language and connects them to letters and words, not how clearly a child sees.

While it's always important to rule out vision concerns if your child is struggling to read, correcting eyesight alone will not address dyslexia. Evidence-based, structured literacy instruction does.

When we understand what dyslexia really is, we stop chasing the wrong solutions and start providing the right support.

When we stop asking, "Why can't they read?" and start asking, "What's making reading difficult?" we open the door to the support that truly helps. 💙

We hear this one more than almost anything else.

From teachers. From family members. Sometimes, heartbreakingly, from parents themselves who have run out of explanations.

He just doesn't care.

We want to tell you what we see after 37 years of sitting with these children.

We see a boy who cares so deeply it keeps him up at night. Who lies in bed replaying the homework he didn't finish and the teacher's face when he forgot, again. Who starts every single morning telling himself that today will be different.

And then his brain does what it always does.

It loses the agenda. It forgets the deadline. It starts three things and finishes none of them. It runs out of time before it runs out of intention.

This is not a character flaw.

This is executive function, the part of the brain that plans, organises, starts tasks, manages time and follows through. And for children with ADHD and learning differences, this system works differently. Not lazily. Not carelessly.

Differently.

No amount of consequences, reminders, or coloured folders will rewire that system. But the right support, teaching the brain the specific strategies it was never able to build on its own, absolutely can.

We have watched the most "disorganised" children we have ever met become independent, capable, self-directed learners. Not because they started caring more.

Because someone finally taught them how. 💛

Richard Branson couldn't read properly until he was 8 years old.

Every single day he sat in a classroom watching other children do something his brain simply could not do the same way. Nobody knew why.

So they made their best guess:

Stupid. Lazy. Not trying hard enough.

He was sent to boarding school at 7. He was beaten there. Told repeatedly, in ways both spoken and unspoken, that he would never amount to anything.

His headmaster looked him in the eye on his last day of school at 15 and said he would either end up in prison or become a millionaire.

He meant it as an insult.

Richard Branson took it as a challenge. 💛

At 16 he started his first business from a phone booth. Then came Virgin Records. Then Virgin Atlantic. Then 400 companies across 8 countries, built entirely by a brain that school called broken.

He said it himself, "I wouldn't have built Virgin if I had not been dyslexic."

Not despite his dyslexia. Because of it.

His difference was never his weakness. It was always his greatest strength. Just nobody told him that early enough.

We think about Richard Branson every time a parent sits across from us - worried, exhausted, watching their child struggle in a system that doesn't understand how their brain works.

Your child's brain is not broken. It is not behind. It is wired differently. And different, with the right support at the right time, is not a disadvantage. It never was.

For over 37 years, we have watched children walk through our door carrying labels that were never theirs, and walk out discovering what they are truly capable of.

The right support doesn't just change how a child learns.

As parents, it's natural to compare.

We want to tell you about a child we see all the time.

He's funny. Charismatic. The kind of kid who lights up our clinic the second he walks in. His teachers say he's bright. You can see it in the way he talks, the way he thinks, the way he makes everyone around him laugh.

But every single night, the homework table turns into a war zone.

He knows what he has to do. He sits down. He tries. And then somehow an hour passes and nothing has been written. Not because he didn't want to. Not because he doesn't care. But because his brain, as brilliant as it is, simply cannot make itself start. Cannot hold the thread. Cannot finish what it began.

And so the story he hears about himself slowly becomes:

"You're not trying."
"You're so smart. Why can't you just focus?"
"If you just applied yourself."

And he starts to believe it. 💔

In over 37 years of working with children, this is the child we see most often. Not the one bouncing off the walls. Not the one disrupting the back of the classroom.

Often it's the quiet one. The dreamer. The child staring out the window not because they don't care, but because their brain is working so hard just to stay in the room.

1 in 10 children has ADHD.

ADHD isn't a focus problem. It's an executive function problem. The part of the brain that plans, starts, organizes, remembers, and follows through works differently. And no amount of trying harder, sitting still, or being told to pay attention will change that.

What actually works?

Teaching the brain the specific skills it was never able to build on its own. Building systems that actually fit how your child thinks. Showing, for the first time, that their brain isn't broken. It just needs a different approach.
