The west end school committee is still working hard to ensure that a new school is built on the current site of Bessborough. We have been meeting with government officials and we remain confident that our concerns are being heard. Thanks to all of you who continue to support our committee!

At last nights meeting Principal Nick Mattatall told us the story behind this peice of art combining Hillcrest and Bessborough colours. We love it!
"Katie Doiron is a West End resident who attended Bessborough School. As a post secondary student, Katie did her educational assistant work placement at Hillcrest School. The inspiration behind the "United As One" painting is that children, parents, educators and alumni from all corners of our community will be coming together as one, bringing their passion and fire for education and our community together to create one new West End School."
Thanks to everyone who joined us this evening and shared your stories, opinions and support. It was great to see so many of you, and especially our friends and neighbours from Hillcrest! Don’t forget to share your west end stories with us!
Charlie Owens shared his West End School Story!
When we were on the market to by our house ten years ago we had narrowed down our search to the “west end”, Old and New. We eventually found a house that suited our needs in the “new west end”. The reason we looking exclusively at houses in this part of the city was because we knew that these were close knit communities with a reputation for community involvement and both schools had great reputations. The idea of our children being able to walk or bike to school was certainly a bonus and in line with global efforts to reduce our environmental footprint.
In this era of bigger is better, we are very fortunate to live in a neighborhood that has this amazing anchor of community involvement. A new school on site would only serve to increase the level of pride and community involvement that already exists in Moncton’s “West End” “old” and “new”. Building a new school in the heart of the community only makes sense for the environment, our kids, and our amazing community known as the west end.

Thanks Esther for sharing your West End School Story. Hope to see you at our community meeting on Thursday May 3rd.
Here’s another story from Michael Russo. Thanks for sharing Michael!
I am a father of four young girls two of which attend Bessborough elementary, and within three years all will be attending the school. I moved to Moncton from Victoria last year and my wife and I purchased a house very close to Bessborough elementary, since being close to an elementary school was a priority for us. I love the neighborhood, but cannot imagine it being great without the school in our community. I believe if the school relocates many homes in the area will suddenly be up for sale.
Thank you for giving the parents in the community with children enrolled in Bessborough elementary a voice.

Thanks Darren for sharing your story! We agree build it up! Build it sideways! Just build it at Bessborough!
What is your West End School story? Send it to us with Messenger or via email!
The Bessborough Building Committee is a community group dedicated to promoting the Bessborough site as the future site of the new West End School. We all have different reasons and many of us have common reasons. I moved to Moncton two years ago and my family made the choice to live in the west end so we could walk to school and work. We chose the west end for its school quality and location. We have managed to sell one of our cars and are a single car family again for the first time in a decade. That’s my story. What is yours? Email us with your story and we’ll post it!

Seaside Elementary is a new school combining several other schools in Saint John, NB. This photo shows the completed new school right beside the school it replaced.
Another great example illustrating the possibilities in west end Moncton!
