Comments: Your web page article on G2 road test check list indicated emergency stopping. I was told emergency stopping was in the G but not the G2 road test. Is emergency stopping knowing how to pull to the side and stop for emergency vehicles? It is not quick forceful braking by slamming on the brakes. Is this correct. Preparing for a G2 road test in Ontario and needed clarification.
Thanks.
Our response:
Both the G2 and G can include emergency breaking. This would be a variable in any test. The examiner will not create an emergency situation for you but anything can happen when the testing is in progress.
Some examples;
Emergency vehicles
Being cut off by a car, motorcycle, bike, bus, truck, etc.
Children or people suddenly walking into your path.
Your tire punctures
Object on the roadway obstructing your path.
The appropriate action depends on the circumstances while driving.

Ontario Cancelling Outdated, Ineffective Drive Clean Program
September 28, 2018
Saving Money while New Program Targets Biggest Polluters, Protects Ontario’s Air
TORONTO — Today, Ontario's Government for the People announced the cancellation of the outdated Drive Clean program, saving money for Ontario taxpayers and reducing the regulatory burden on Ontario families while enhancing regulations for the biggest polluters on Ontario's roads. Effective April 1, 2019, drivers will no longer be required to get Drive Clean emissions tests for their passenger vehicles.
"By ending Drive Clean tests and repairs for passenger vehicles, this government is reducing the burden on residents and families who own a car, so they no longer need to take time out of their days to take their vehicles in for unnecessary tests," said Premier Doug Ford. "We're saving taxpayers over $40 million every year. And we're better targeting the biggest polluters to protect Ontario's air."
"When first introduced by a previous Progressive Conservative government in 1999, Drive Clean was effective. It provided a way to target emissions related to smog and other environmental problems," said Rod Phillips, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. "This has resulted in a steady decrease in the number of cars that fail the emissions test. Drive Clean was intended to be a time-limited program, and as the years passed, so did its usefulness. It has provided less and less value for taxpayer dollars."
A new, enhanced program will focus on heavy-duty vehicles like commercial transport trucks and will ensure that Ontario continues to lead Canada in reducing harmful smog-causing pollutants. A policy proposal has been posted on the Environmental Registry for 30 days to encourage public consultation on the changes to the Drive Clean program, including the redesign of the heavy duty program.
"By enhancing our testing of heavy duty vehicles, we will ensure that Ontario continues to lead Canada in reducing harmful smog-causing pollutants," said John Yakabuski, Minister of Transportation. "These changes will make a real, long-term difference for our air quality, while respecting taxpayer dollars today."
More details about the new program for heavy-duty vehicles will be available in the coming months.

Tougher Penalties for Dangerous Driving Start September 1
August 31, 2018
New careless driving charge includes possible jail time
Ontario's Government for the People is taking steps to ensure Ontario's roads are safe for everyone. Starting September 1, there will be tougher penalties for careless driving and endangering pedestrians.
Drivers convicted of careless driving causing bodily harm or death will face:
Fines from $2,000 to $50,000, Six demerit points, A driver's licence suspension of up to five years, Up to two years in jail.
"Time and time again we've seen families devastated because a loved one is hurt or killed by a dangerous driver, and the driver walks away with no more than a slap on the wrist," said John Yakabuski, Minister of Transportation. "This new charge sends a clear message that dangerous driving won't be tolerated."
Penalties will also increase for drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians at crossovers, school crossings and crosswalks. The maximum penalty will increase to $1,000 and four demerit points.
Drivers are also reminded that they must yield the entire roadway at pedestrian crossovers, school crossings, and other locations where there is a crossing guard, and cannot continue driving until pedestrians have finished crossing the road completely.
"The number of pedestrians being injured and killed on our roads has reached a critical level," said Minister Yakabuski. "Tougher penalties help, but we need everyone to step up and do their part by driving safely and responsibly."

Ontario Making G1 Written Test Available in Armenian
New Language Options Support Newcomers, Improve Road Safety
Ontario is making its written knowledge test for a G1 licence available in Armenian starting this spring, to support newcomers in learning the rules of the road and improve road safety.
Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca was joined by MPP for Don Valley East Michael Coteau at the Armenian Community Centre of Toronto in North York today to make the announcement.
Adding Armenian will support newcomers to Ontario in completing their tests, learning the rules of the road and gaining the experience required to drive safely in the province.
The G1 knowledge test is currently offered at DriveTest Centres in 20 other languages - including Ontario's official languages of English and French. As part of Ontario's continued commitment to road safety, all new drivers must take a knowledge test as the first step the province's graduated licensing system. Beginner driver education programs can also help teach the skills and attitudes needed to be a safe and responsible driver.
Making the G1 knowledge test available in more languages is part of Ontario's plan to create fairness and opportunity during this period of rapid economic change. The plan includes a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, easier access to affordable child care, and free prescription drugs for everyone under 25 through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation.

Ontario Making it Easier to Charge Electric Vehicles
Province Funding New Charging Stations at Workplaces
Ontario is making it easier to use electric vehicles to get to and from work by assisting employers, commercial building owners and managers to install charging stations at their workplaces. This investment is part of Ontario's Climate Change Action Plan and is funded by proceeds from the province's cap on pollution and carbon market.
Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca was at the Electric Vehicle Discovery Centre in Toronto today to announce the new Workplace Electric Vehicle Charging Incentive Program.
The province will support employers and commercial building owners that wish to offer electric vehicle charging for their employees or tenants by helping with the cost of installing charging stations. This program supports Ontario's ongoing work in communities across the province to increase the number of electric vehicle charging stations and make it easier for people to use electric vehicles.
Ontario is investing proceeds from its carbon market into programs that help households and businesses reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save money on energy costs. These programs include home energy and social housing retrofits, public transit and electric vehicle incentives and infrastructure.
Making it easy for people to switch to electric vehicles and reduce their carbon footprint is part of Ontario's plan to create fairness and opportunity during this period of rapid economic change. The plan includes a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, easier access to affordable child care, and free prescription drugs for everyone under 25 through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation.
Quick Facts
The Workplace Electric Vehicle Charging Incentive Program will provide 80 per cent of the capital costs to install level 2 chargers, up to $7,500 per charging space.
Applications will open on Jan. 16, 2018, and reviewed and processed in the order they are received, until the program funding is exhausted.
Level 2 charging stations use a 240 volt system (similar to a clothes dryer plug) and can fully charge a vehicle from a zero per cent charge in about four to eight hours.
It is estimated there are over 1,300 public chargers available in Ontario, including chargers not funded under the Electric Vehicle Chargers Ontario program.
Ontario’s Electric Vehicle Charging Incentive program has provided incentives worth approximately $2.2 million for the installation of almost 2,600 home charging stations since January 2013.
Ontario’s five-year Climate Change Action Plan aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 15 per cent below 1990 levels by 2020, 37 per cent by 2030 and 80 per cent by 2050.
Greenhouse gases from cars account for more emissions than those from iron, steel, cement, and chemical industries combined.
There are more than 16,000 electric vehicles currently on the road in Ontario.
