June is National Indigenous History Month. It is a time to reflect on the histories of Indigenous Peoples and our responsibility to understand how they continue to shape health and care today.
In Common Ground, Dr. Sarah Cook acknowledge the harm caused by our profession and health systems, as recognized in the CMA's 2024 apology, and the need for continued action. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action highlight the role of health professionals in addressing inequities, supporting Indigenous healing, and ensuring culturally safe care.
Recent experiences in Yellowknife, including learning from Elders and community members, reinforced the importance of listening, humility, and ongoing learning in this work.
What can you do to deepen your understanding this month?
