At Guiding Light Academy, we believe chess facilitates a discipline that strengthens critical thinking and sharpens decision-making.

Our students stepped into the tournament with courage and composure, thinking several moves ahead, practicing sportsmanship, and demonstrating the power of preparation meeting opportunity.

Every move matters. Every choice shapes the outcome.

We are proud of each student who sat at the board, embraced the challenge, and played with integrity.

100 Days of JK | 2026

One hundred days of growth.
One hundred days of courage.
One hundred days of becoming.

Today we marked our first 100 days of Junior Kindergarten. In just a few months, our students have strengthened early reading foundations through phonemic awareness and sound blending, built number sense through counting, patterning, and mental math, and developed the independence to follow multi-step directions with focus and composure.

The first five years of life account for approximately 90 percent of brain development. What children repeatedly practice during this window becomes wired.

At Guiding Light Academy, our JK program is intentionally structured around this science. Lessons are concise and sequential. Expectations are explicit. Independence is scaffolded. Feedback is immediate.

One hundred days in, our students are not simply older. They are more attentive, more capable, and more confident in their thinking.

Early foundations determine later trajectory.

Guiding Light Montessori is the early-years foundation for families who value intention, order, and care in education.

For children 18 months and up, our CWELCC Montessori environment supports independence, focus, and confidence during the years when it matters most.

For many of our families, this is the natural first step before joining Guiding Light Academy.

Movement boosts memory. Play strengthens problem-solving. Real-world challenges build mathematical thinking.
Today our students bowled, built, stacked, counted, measured, and strategized their way through a full-body math experience on the field.

This is what enriched learning looks like.

At Guiding Light Academy, every experience is thoughtfully designed to nurture the whole child: socially, emotionally, and intellectually. Because true excellence is not confined to the classroom. What looks like a simple outdoor lunch is a moment of learning where students practice conversation, kindness, and confidence in a joyful setting. A picnic with purpose because leadership begins in the small, intentional moments.

On this field trip, history came alive without screens, noise, or overstimulation. Instead, students observed the slow rhythm of craftsmanship, practiced sequencing, and engaged fine motor coordination.
These focused, unhurried moments build the executive functioning and cognitive flexibility that underpin lifelong academic success. When children step into history, facts become experiences and experiences become understanding. Carefully curated experiences stimulate higher-order thinking and deepen neural connections essential for academic mastery. The most important investment you will ever make is who shapes your child’s mind in these early years because once formed, it becomes the lens through which they meet every experience.

Where will your child be known, shaped, and protected?

In a world that feels louder by the day, we believe childhood deserves something quieter — something sacred. At Guiding Light Academy, we ask different questions:

Who will truly know your child?
What will shape their soul?
How will they be measured — and by what standard?
Will your family find a place to belong, not just attend? 📍Located in Streetsville, Mississauga

Every year at Guiding Light Academy, students immerse themselves in Shakespeare Week, a school-wide celebration that brings the brilliance of classical literature to life. Far from simply memorizing lines, children are challenged to interpret complex characters, wrestle with moral dilemmas, and deliver language rich with rhythm, metaphor, and meaning.
The benefits are profound. Exposure to classical literature at an early age sharpens linguistic precision, deepens moral reasoning, and enhances the brain’s executive function.
But the real magic happens on stage. A quiet student steps forward and finds their voice in a monologue. A group of peers learn to collaborate. A moment of shared laughter over a centuries-old pun reminds us that human nature is enduring and shared.
In an age of fleeting content and surface-level learning, we choose something deeper. We choose the classics. We choose Christ-centered formation. We choose to raise children who can think clearly, speak boldly, and live with purpose.

A formation in virtue, grace, and reverence—woven into the everyday.

Students at Guiding Light Academy crown Our Lady daily as a part of a regular school day in May, the month dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Why does this matter?

Because children imitate what they see and absorb the values they live. At a time when much of the world rushes, we slow down. Our students don’t just learn about faith—they experience it, live it, and grow in it.

This Marian crowning is more than a beautiful tradition. It’s an immersive formation in:

• Humility, as children learn about something greater than themselves.
• Leadership, as they take responsibility for their roles in the ceremony with care.
• Gratitude, as they offer their small but significant gifts to Our Lady.
• Community, as every child’s presence, prayer, and posture builds a shared sense of purpose.

In Catholic education, we form both intellect and soul. The result? Children who are not only academically capable but also spiritually rooted, emotionally attuned, and morally self aware.

Guiding Light Academy is where academic excellence meets eternal perspective.
Faith isn’t added on—it’s the foundation.

Every year, students at Guiding Light Academy are given the rare opportunity to perform in front of hundreds at our annual gala dinner. But this year’s performance was unlike any other.

Under the guidance of our faculty, students learned orchestral instruments and performed classical hymns sourced directly from the Vatican’s music library—a moving tribute to our Catholic heritage and academic rigour.

This wasn’t just a concert. It was a culmination of months of discipline, prayer, and faith in action. Neuroscience affirms what the Church has long known: music formation activates the whole child—mind, body, and soul.

At Guiding Light, we don’t just teach. We form leaders with virtue, intellect, and grace. Our proprietary curriculum blends Canadian excellence with global academic standards, all within the heart of Streetsville.

At Guiding Light Academy, learning extends far beyond the classroom.

Our Reading Buddies program pairs older and younger students in a unique mentorship experience that builds confidence, leadership, empathy, and a true love for reading. Older children strengthen fluency and comprehension as they teach, while younger students benefit from the encouragement and inspiration of a caring role model.

This is more than reading — it’s character-building, communication practice, and joyful connection all in one. It’s just one of the many ways we create an enriched, nurturing environment where your child doesn’t just learn — they thrive.
