336 vs 500+.
That's the real gap between a French-language proficiency Express Entry round and a typical general draw β same program, same permanent residence, a completely different score to beat.
Category-based rounds exist because IRCC targets specific economic goals β and French-language ability has consistently been one of them since 2023. The result: cutoff scores that run in the 300sβ400s, while general draws often sit well above 500.
To qualify, you'll need NCLC 7 or higher across all four French language abilities, plus standard Express Entry eligibility.
The real question isn't whether you qualify for Express Entry β it's whether you're using the right category. That distinction can mean the difference between years of waiting and an invitation.
At Canada Visa Express, Maryam (Mary) Pineda personally reviews every file to find the strongest path forward β including pathways most applicants never even consider.

π Express Entry Draw Update
IRCC conducted two consecutive Express Entry draws on August 4 and 5, 2026, inviting 3,507 candidates to apply for permanent residence.
π Canadian Experience Class
πΉ 3,000 invitations issued
πΉ CRS cut-off: 516
π Provincial Nominee Program
πΉ 507 invitations issued
πΉ CRS cut-off: 768
The different minimum ranking scores needed to receive an invitation reflect the distinct eligibility requirements and selection criteria for each draw.

π Express Entry just made history with its first-ever Skilled Military Recruits draw β issuing 4 invitations at a CRS cut-off of 368. It's the smallest draw on record, but it's a reminder that IRCC keeps opening new doors for candidates.
With 42 draws already held in 2026, Provincial Nominee Program and Canadian Experience Class remain the busiest categories β but as this week shows, new pathways can appear at any time.
