Children's Sadness, Anger and Tantrums- How do you Respond?

How we respond to children's emotions sends different messages or teachings to young children

We want to be more aware of what we are teaching our children..

When we ignore or walk away from a child who is having an emotional breakdown or is crying uncontrollably, we are telling them their emotions are scary and are not important= the child feeling of being alone, rejected, confused and scared which prolongs their ability to recover from these intense emotions.

Learning to be self aware as an educator, or parent will reduce challenging behaviors in your children.

That’s not to say you haven’t been a good educator or parent. It simply means that we do the best we can do at the time, but once we know better, we can do differently.

Child Care Solutions is excited to present a NEW interactive virtual workshop based on Dr. Becky Baileys’ research and book called “Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline”. This workshop will focus on the early childhood educator’s belief system in relation to how they set limits, manage challenging behaviors and manage both small and large groups of children, deal with transitions and their day to day interactions with children to promote self regulation and promote pro-social behaviors.

This workshop is a series of 2 two hour workshops that looks at how change within a parent or educator working with young children will impact change in the child’s behavior.

Don’t miss registering for these upcoming workshops for Wed December 1-7-9 p.m/Thurs Dec 2-7-9 p.m. or Thurs Jan 20- 7-9 p.m and Tues Jan 25 -7-9 p.m

Teaching self regulation skills Is Not teaching children by telling but teaching children by modelling

Teaching Self regulatiions skills Is

*teaching yourself how to regulate-calm yourself in middle of stress and chaos

*teaching yourself self control

*teaching yourself how to express anger, frustration in a healthy way for children to see

It is not about telling children to calm down when they are upset, Its about teaching them what calm feels like and ways to get your body calm when you start to feel frustrated or angry.

Here is what Supervisors and RECE's who have participated in our virtual workshops say:

Thank you so much Cathy for offering such great workshops for our staff to take!
Thanks so much!
Donna for Red Apple Day Care-Supervisor

I just want to say a great big thank you to Cathy and her amazing knowledge of How Does Learning Happen. The way she broke down all the elements was fantastic and very helpful. I have a totally new understanding of the ins and outs of this document and how to use it in my documentation. She is very easy to talk to and encourages participants interaction.
She has a lot of hands on knowledge and experiences that we can all relate to.
I would recommend her to anyone.
Thanks again
Shannon Cairns- RECE

MUSIC! How can children learn or live without it? Music educators have known for years that quality music experiences enhance listening; invite intuitive and steady beat responses; and aid learning of vocabulary, sound and pitch discrimination, emotional responses, creative responses, memory, and many hours of fun for our wee ones.

What powerful links to learning might we use within the many aspects of music? It appears that the first three years of a child's life are critical for optimal brain development, for music, and for learning through music.
Now brain research is becoming available to support these perceptions. Let's consider some of music's important gifts, supported by research, for the children entrusted into our care.
