This is one of two articles on dispelling the myth of the 5 Stages of Grief that introduced me to The Grief Recovery Method. All that was shared in this article, including the very clear message that these stages NEVER applied to grief and loss in general, but specifically to those with terminal illness facing the end of their lives - resonated for me.

Hope you'll take the time to read and realize that your grief does not get neatly slotted into stages and by doing so, greatly impairs your ability to be able to begin to heal and recover. Another message not often shared in the grief community.

Here is the 2nd article: https://www.griefrecoverymethod.com/node/5954

Happy Mother's Day to all our Moms here! I know this can be a difficult and emotional day for many, but feel it is important to honour and acknowledge all Moms.

May each of you find a way today to celebrate YOU and your Moms. It can be bittersweet when your Mom is no longer alive, or for a mother who has lost a child or those with difficult and estranged relationships. Be gentle and kind with yourselves and so hope you will allow for some good memories to be shared.

An excellent article addressing a topic that many grievers experience. Many times we use the word "guilt" to describe what we're feeling and yet it's often "regret". The difference is important and this article helps with that.

Luke Perry Protected His Family With Estate Planning 03/11/2019

Such an important topic that far too many are reluctant to address while still in good health. Having proper legal documents in place, like a will, or trust, advanced directives for your healthcare and many other issues can truly make what is most often a very significant and emotional loss, a little less difficult. When grieving, decision making can be difficult and greatly compromised. Having these things done ahead of time is one of the most responsible acts of kindness for your loved ones.

RIP Luke Perry - gone way too soon!

Luke Perry Protected His Family With Estate Planning Luke Perry died surrounded by loved ones. The actor - who rose to fame playing a teenager on Beverly Hills 90210 - died from a condition that most think of as only striking "old" people. Perry's foresight to do the proper estate planning meant that the tragedy was not made worse for his family.

Facebook is introducing a new ‘Tributes’ section for memorialized accounts 03/08/2019

When it comes to your digital presence, important to know the options available. FB's 'memorialized' accounts have been welcomed by some, others have found it very upsetting to discover their loved one's FB account has been memorialized and they often have lost access to the account or are no longer able to be in control of it if they had the password. Unfortunately over the years, have heard many be on the receiving end of this, and not sure who reported the account as someone deceased.

Here's a new feature FB is making available to help with that.

You can learn more about a "Legacy Account" as well as "Memorialization" here: https://www.facebook.com/help/1568013990080948?helpref=faq_content

Depending on a memorialized account’s privacy settings, friends can currently still post on its timeline, inclu...

Well worth a re-share!

Grief is not a competition. Please don't compare losses because it diminishes us all. Everyone is grieving their loss 100%! I see so many comments that one person's loss is worse than anyone else's and I see the pain this causes to those already overwhelmed with pain.

Everyone's loss and grief is unique to them as is the relationship they had with the one departed. No one knows your pain, although you see that comment often as well. Even if they have had a similar loss, they did not necessarily have the same relationship with who they lost as you had. If you've lost for example, a sibling, another who has also lost a sibling will have a completely different grief experience. There will be similarities, but many differences.

Better to stop comparing altogether. Have compassion and empathy for anyone who has lost someone they cared about and support one another without judgement or the need to compare who is hurting most.

Sending much love and light to anyone experiencing a loss. ~ Barb

An excellent article about grief and loss and how the Grief Recovery Method can help.

Grief can be a very lonely and isolating experience. No matter the loss causing your emotional pain, you are very much alone in how it impacts you. Even if others have experienced the same or similar loss, how you feel is never the same as someone else
