Sovietization of History and Memory in Ukraine (1920s-1930s) by Dr. Oksana Klymenko
This talk examines the formation of Soviet projects promoting “the correct” Soviet-endorsed version of Ukrainian history during the interwar period. The study reveals the narratological techniques and tools used in the memoirs of workers, which were intended to serve as evidence to validate the accuracy of Soviet “historical narratives”.

The Petro Jacyk Program for the Study of Ukraine at the Centre for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies (CERES), Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, University of Toronto is accepting applications for the Petro Jacyk Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Ukrainian Politics, Culture, and Society for the 2024-2025 academic year. The objective of the Post-Doctoral Fellowship is to support annually one of the most promising junior scholars studying contemporary Ukraine and thereby to advance academic understanding of Ukrainian politics, culture, and society. The Fellowship is made possible through the generous support of the Petro Jacyk Education Foundation.

Dr. Olga Bertelsen, a U of T Petro Jacyk Post-Doctoral Fellow, is an expert with an incredible background. She completed a medical and dental education and holds bachelor and doctoral degrees in History, specializing in Ukraine and Soviet history. Her academic journey spans prestigious institutions, from Columbia University to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
