How to ENCOURAGE Your CHILD'S INTEREST in SCIENCE

Encourage questioning.
Children are constantly asking questions – encourage your kids to keep doing this as they get older!. Encourage your teen to think critically, explain their reasoning, experiment and evaluate – science skills that are essential in all areas of life and occupations.

Find science in the real world.
Teens can often get more engaged with science when they can see how it applies in the real world. Visit places where your teen can experience science in action – such as the planetarium, observatory, aquarium, zoo, museums and galleries. that your teen might be interested in.

Keep up with the news.
Science is often more interesting for teens if they can understand how it impacts on our daily lives. Watch the news to keep on top of the latest developments.

Focus on effort, not ‘talent’ or grades.
instead of focusing on grades, try to focus on the effort your kids put in to their science learning – and praise them for their effort.

Talk about science careers
Talk to your child about all of the different fields where science is applied every day.

Link science to something your teen loves
Link science to something your teen already loves, whether it is computer games or something else!

First Day of School- A LifeChanging Day for Kids just starting.
Be sure your kindergartener or primary school child is ready for the first day of school.
PRACTICE getting ready. Visit the school and your child should know the teacher’s name. Children who have a few basic skills under their belt tend to feel more comfortable in class
SELF-CARE-Little kids need to know how to care for their own needs when they enter school. That includes going to the bathroom, dressing, and washing their hands
SOCIAL -Going to school is a time for making new friendships and learning how to get along with others. Give your child opportunities to mix with other children. It's about learning life skills, not just school skills!

the POWER of Cursive Writing Cursive handwriting will return this September to Ontario schools as a mandatory part of the curriculum. Why is it making a comeback now? Because, according to new research, not only does cursive increase the speed of writing, it also improves brain development. Learning is reinforced in the areas of thinking, language, and working memory. It is useful in developing spelling skills, helping children to recognize words when they read them later. Typing doesn't have the same effect on the brain, as it doesn't require the same fine motor skills and simultaneous activity.
What is the right age to start learning cursive? Cursive writing is usually recommended for children between the ages of 5 and upwards. It is essential for child development to help fine tune their motor skills and improves mental efficiency. So, forget the typing keyboards, and welcome back Cursive!
