Most boxing fitness classes make you sweat.

At Trifecta Fitness & Boxing, we want you to walk out stronger, smarter, and better prepared to move in real life.

This week on the blog, we broke down the McGill Big 3 — three simple core exercises designed to build a stronger, more stable midsection without beating up your back with endless crunches.

Why does that matter?

Because a strong core is not just about abs.

It helps you punch harder, move better, protect your back, and build the kind of fitness you can actually use.

That is exactly what our Trifecta Fitness & Boxing program is built around:

Boxing.
Core training.
Real conditioning.

No nonsense. No complicated routines. Just smart training that works.

Trifecta Fitness & Boxing is now back Saturday mornings at 10 AM.

Click below to read the full McGill Big 3 breakdown, then come try the class and see how we put it into action on the floor.

Not all martial arts schools in Mississauga are created equal. At 905 Karate Club | Ferrers Defense System, we offer something truly rare: a well-rounded, multi-discipline training program that covers karate, jiu-jitsu, taekwondo, and self-defence—all under one roof, led by a team of multiple certified black belt instructors.

Whether your goal is to build confidence, get fit, learn practical self-defence skills in Mississauga, or master the traditional art of karate, our curriculum is designed to meet you exactly where you are. We believe a complete martial artist is one who understands striking, grappling, and real-world defence—and that's precisely what we deliver every single class.

At the helm of our program is Head Instructor Master Ramkalawan alongside Cees Kuekens, a proud inductee of the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame ,a distinction that speaks volumes about the calibre of instruction you'll receive at our school. When you train here, you're not just joining a karate club near Tomken Road — you're learning from some of the most respected names in martial arts.

Located just steps from the iconic Captain's Pool Hall at Dixie and Tomken, we are perfectly positioned between Square One and Sherway Gardens, making us the most accessible martial arts school in the Mississauga–Etobicoke area.

Catching and dealing with your kicks being caught are two really important and often overlooked topics in Muay Thai..

Here are a few clips of coach travis going over some best practices from the situation in the class the past week.

p.s
Heading into spring soon, so I'd say it's almost time to break out the running shoes as roadwork season is nearly here.

The "Day 1" Sweep That Actually Works (Double Ankle/Chair Sweep) 03/12/2026

Here's how you can make your double ankle sweep actually work 🥋

Some of the most effective techniques in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are also the most natural movements the human body can make.
The chair sweep (also known as the double ankle sweep) is a great example

If you've ever watched kids wrestling on a playground one grabs the ankles, the other tips backward you've basically seen it already.
In BJJ, the chair sweep is one of the simplest ways to knock someone backward when they stand up inside your guard. Done right, you take away their balance and move straight into top position or mount.

The move is simple. The details are what make it work consistently.

Here's what beginners often miss:

After the sweep, your opponent is briefly higher than you when their back hits the mat. If you rush to jump into mount, a strong opponent can push you away and scramble back on top.
The fix? Keep your hands on the mat behind you. Then walk your hands forward while driving your hips in climb into mount, don't jump into it.

That one detail alone makes this sweep far more reliable.
The chair sweep works because it attacks your opponent's base. When their feet are pulled out from under their hips, gravity does the rest which is why even a smaller person can sweep someone much bigger with the right timing.
You don't need strength. You need timing, leverage, and good positioning.
At Core Jiu-Jitsu Mississauga, this is one of the first sweeps we teach because the movement is natural, the lesson is clear, and it builds skills you'll use for years.

👇 Drop a comment if you've hit this sweep in rolling — or if you've been struggling to finish it!

The #1 question every new Muay Thai student asks: "Am I going to get hit on the first day?"

Short answer: Absolutely not. At Elite MMA, your safety and confidence are our top priorities.

Forget the intense fight clips you've seen online. Our striking programs are built on a foundation of control and technique. Before you even think about sparring, you'll master the fundamentals in a supportive environment. You'll learn:

✅ Proper Muay Thai Stance & Footwork: How to move with balance and control.
✅ Fundamental Techniques: Practicing your roundhouse kick, punches, knees, and elbows on the heavy bag and with partner drills.
✅ Pad Work with Expert Coaches: Developing timing, distance, and power on Thai pads in a controlled setting.

When you are ready, beginner sparring at Elite MMA is a controlled conversation, not a fight. We focus on light contact and technical sparring with experienced partners to ensure you learn and grow without fear of injury.

Your training journey is unique. That's why we map out a plan that matches your personal goals during your Headstart Consultation.
