​Happy World Teachers' Day! 🍎 We are so incredibly grateful for our dedicated teachers and support staff who pour their hearts and souls into our school every single day.

​Teaching is so much more than just a job. It’s watching our students grow into the young men and women God created them to be. It’s witnessing those precious "aha!" moments when a difficult lesson finally clicks.

There's a famous quote by a Yale University psychiatrist, Dr. James P. Comer. He said, “No significant learning can occur without a significant relationship”. We see our teachers forming these special relationships every day.

🧡 Truth and Reconciliation Day 🧡

Today, we pause to remember and honour the children and families who were impacted by the residential school system and its lasting effects on Indigenous communities.

Yesterday, our students wore orange shirts and spent time learning about the experiences of Indigenous children who attended residential schools. Our classes read When We Were Alone by David A. Robertson, a thoughtful story about a young girl who asks her grandmother about the things she did and wore when she was a child at residential school. Through their conversation, students learn about the ways residential schools tried to take away Indigenous children’s culture, language, and identity, while also seeing the strength and resilience of the grandmother and her family.

As a Christian school, we believe in the importance of seeking truth, acknowledging past wrongs, listening with humility, and working toward reconciliation. May we continue to teach our students to show compassion, respect, and love for others as we learn from the past and look toward a future of greater understanding and healing.

Making memories to kick off the year! 🌲 🌊

Our Grade 7/8 students spent an afternoon at Cascade Falls for their first field trip! It was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen old friendships, build new connections, and enjoy God’s breathtaking creation together.

As the oldest students in our school, this group is ready to step up, lead with faith and integrity, and set the tone for an amazing year ahead. We can’t wait to see how God uses them as leaders in our community! ✨

From spring seeds to autumn harvest! 🌱 ✨

Our new kindergarteners and grade 5/6 students had a blast getting their hands dirty and gathering the fruits of spring's labor. Look at these gorgeous carrots, potatoes, and vibrant dahlias!

There’s nothing quite like watching our students experience the beauty of God’s creation and learn the joy of reaping what you sow. 🌾 🥔 🥕 🌸

Adventure, community, and a cold splash to kick off the school year! 🌲 🏞️

Our Grade 5/6 class took on their first field trip to Cascade Falls! Students bonded over a scavenger hunt, got creative making nature art, and a few brave souls even took a chilly dip in the water! 🏊‍♂️ 🎨

We love seeing our students build lifelong friendships and explore God's big, beautiful backyard together. 🍂 ☀️

Behind the scenes on today’s Pro-D Day! 🍎✨

While our students enjoy a day off, our staff are hard at work running through our emergency procedures. We’re making sure our school is as safe, organized, and prepared as possible for whatever comes our way! 🛠️📋

We love our students like family, and keeping them safe is always our top priority. As Proverbs 22:3 reminds us: “The prudent see danger and take refuge.” We like to think of today as building a really good refuge... with a lot of high-vis vests and team spirit! 🦺😁

🔬 Microscopic Fun! 🔬

Our 7th and 8th graders turned into mini-scientists this morning! Equipped with microscopes, they took a deep dive into the microscopic world of cells to discover the building blocks of God's creation.

🌿 Plant Cells: Built with sturdy cell walls and green chloroplasts.

🐶 Animal Cells: Flexible, unique, and masterfully crafted without those rigid walls.

The coolest takeaway? Zooming in to see Psalm 139 in action! Realizing that whether it’s a simple leaf or our own bodies, God made everything so intricately, purposefully, and wonderfully, right down to the microscopic detail.

Welcome back to school! 🎒✨

A brand-new school year is here, and our halls are once again filled with bright smiles and joyful laughter. As we kick off this exciting season, we are focusing our hearts on this year's theme:

"Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony."
— Colossians 3:14

Our prayer for this year is that every classroom, hallway, and playground is marked by the love of Christ—helping our students grow not only in knowledge, but in grace, kindness, and unity. We can't wait to see all that God does in and through our school family this year!

🎉Congratulations to our teacher, Donna Edward - 30 Years at VCS... and Counting!🎉

This year, we have the privilege of recognizing someone who has dedicated an incredible 30 years of service to Valley Christian School - Ms. Donna Edward!

Thirty years is a remarkable milestone. It represents thousands of lessons taught, countless prayers offered, hundreds of students encouraged, and an immeasurable impact on the lives of children and families in our community.

Ms. Edward has been part of Valley through many seasons - times of growth and celebration, as well as times of challenge and change. Through it all, she has remained a steady and faithful presence, serving our school with dedication, grace, and a deep love for children.

For three decades, Ms. Edward has been a blessing to students in the primary grades. Her classroom has always been a place where children feel welcomed, valued, and cared for. She has a unique gift for making learning memorable. In fact, if there's a concept to learn, chances are Donna has a song, rhyme, or creative way to help students remember it!

Those who know Ms. Edward know her for her kind heart, compassionate spirit, and calm demeanor. She brings a sense of peace wherever she goes and is someone that both students and colleagues naturally trust and respect. Her wisdom and experience have been an invaluable gift to our staff team over the years.

Teaching has truly been part of Ms. Edward's story from the very beginning. Even as a child, after coming home from school, she would line up her stuffed animals and teach them the lessons she had learned that day. It seems God was preparing her for this calling long before she ever stepped into her first classroom.

Over the years, Ms. Edward has created countless memories for her students. Some highlights in her class include Learn-to-Fish field trips, hatching chicks and ducklings in the classroom, hosting Career Day, celebrating student's birthdays, teaching and entertaining students with line dancing - one of her favorite pastimes. Ms. Edward has always found ways to make learning come alive.

Outside of school, Ms. Edward is passionate about hockey and spent many years cheering from the sidelines as her four boys competed in sports. Her family has deep roots at Valley, as her sons also attended our school. Today, she enjoys spending time with her family, savoring Greek food and herbal tea, and most of all, loving on her precious grandchildren.

While we celebrate 30 years of service, what we are really celebrating is the impact of a life faithfully lived. Generations of students have been encouraged, nurtured, and pointed toward Christ because of Ms. Edward 's commitment to Christian education.

Ms. Edward, thank you for your unwavering dedication, your servant heart, your creativity, your kindness, and your love for the children God has entrusted to your care. The seeds you have planted over the past three decades have made an eternal difference in the lives of so many students and families.

We are deeply grateful for all that you have contributed to Valley Christian School. We are blessed to have you as part of our community, and we pray that you know just how loved and appreciated you are.

Congratulations on 30 years of faithful service. May God continue to bless you as you continue to bless our school. Thank you, Ms. Edward!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! 🍎✨

We are so incredibly grateful for the team of teachers and EAs at VCS. Our students are truly blessed to have such caring professionals guiding them and supporting them both academically, but more importantly, spiritually.

Teaching is so much more than just a job - it’s a calling. It takes a very special person to patiently lead, encourage, and guide young minds. Teachers inspire their students, they help shape who the students become, and they celebrate their wins together.

But teachers and EAs are also there in quiet, difficult moments that many people never see. They notice when a student is struggling, feeling discouraged, or having a hard day, and they step in with patience, kindness, and support.

Thank you to all of our amazing teachers and EAs who followed their calling to become mentors. Thank you for the long nights that you’re up praying and planning for your students. We know you pour so much of yourself into each of these children. We thank God for you this week and always! 🙌

And a special THANK YOU as well to our incredible parent volunteers who made May 4th extra memorable with a fun Star Wars-themed staff appreciation lunch - what a treat! 💫
