Blackville School, ASD-N students who are participating on the ASDN North Shore Legacy 80th Anniversary of Juno placed salmon flies on gravesites to remember the fallen soldiers. The pattern tied was the Veteran Fly, which was created by Jenna Tucker. Each colour, chosen by Jenna, has a symbolic meaning to veterans: purple represents sorrow for the fallen soldiers; red and white for the Canadian flag; green for a soldiers uniform; gold for the medals awarded to a soldier; red for the petals of a poppy and black for the centre of a poppy. Many thanks to Sydney Matchett from Trout Fly Shop for tying these flies.

MSA's 12th Annual First Cast will take place on June 22nd and 23rd. This is a complimentary, all-ages event where “relatively experienced” anglers, with the help of volunteers from the MSA, can introduce friends and family members to the sport of fly-fishing. Saturday will include a casual classroom session, museum tour, and riverside casting instruction, and on Sunday there will be a full day of supervised fishing. For more information or to register, please visit: https://miramichisalmon.ca/first-cast/

And we are off... next stop Cains River! The Outdoor Education 110 students are in for an amazing canoeing/camping/fishing experience on the Cains. Many thanks to the Deparrment of Natural Resources for providing us with an angling permit where many of these students will fly fish for the first time ... hoping to hook into a majestic sea run Brook trout. No better classroom over the next two days.
