The Bramble Patch Preschool

The Bramble Patch Preschool Providing quality Childcare in a Loving Home in the Minden/Haliburton Area. Central to our philosophy is the cultivation of warm and caring relationships.

Founded in 2023, Little Blue Roof Childcare was established with a clear mission: to meet the needs of the local community of Minden/Haliburton and the surrounding areas. Nestled in this vibrant community, our home daycare is dedicated to providing a nurturing and enriching environment where children can thrive. At Little Blue Roof, we set out to create more than just a childcare facility; we stri

ve to be an extension of the home, offering a warm and inviting space where children feel comfortable and secure. Our aim is to provide the best of both worlds: the benefits of being at home combined with the educational opportunities of a childcare center. We believe in the power of community and actively seek to integrate learning experiences that extend beyond our walls. Through field trips, visits to local landmarks, and involvement in community events, we aim to broaden children's horizons and instill a sense of connection to their surroundings. We understand that meaningful connections are the foundation of a child's sense of security and belonging. Our dedicated caregivers prioritize building trust and rapport with each child, creating a supportive environment where they can explore, grow, and learn. In our group family setting, children not only learn academic skills but also essential life skills. From problem-solving and cooperation to empathy and resilience, we provide opportunities for children to develop the skills they need to navigate the world around them. At Little Blue Roof Childcare, we are committed to encouraging exploration, growth, and learning under our roof. Join us on this journey of discovery and development, where every child is valued, supported, and celebrated.

Hi Bramble Patch Families! đź‘‹

As a part of our October Self-Help Skills & Hygiene curriculum from the Foragers Approach, we have been working on serving ourselves food! We've been using different tools and skills to build fine motor strength and independence! Mealtime is a hands-on learning adventure here at The Bramble Patch.

Building Independence and Strength 💪

Mealtime is a crucial learning experience.

Fine Motor Development: Skills like scooping and pouring build crucial wrist control and strength. Using tongs strengthens hand-grip, and practicing with utensils like forks and spoons refines the pincer grasp.

Why This Matters: These table skills are vital for future independence! They help us gain confidence for later self-help skills like buttons and zippers, and they encourage our school readiness when learning how to properly hold tools for writing.

Mindful Serving and Essential Routines ✅

We are focusing on community responsibility and routines for safety and health:

Mindful Serving: We are teaching the children to be mindful of others and not take more than their share before others can serve themselves. We also remind everyone that we should start with smaller scoops to respect their hunger signals and help encourage less food waste.

Essential Routines: We remind everyone that we have to sit in our seat while we eat. If a child gets up from the table, they are signaling with their body that they are all done, and we practice making sure their mouths are empty before they run off to play. We also emphasize proper hand washing before every meal.

Our Food Exploration Philosophy 🍎

We teach children to develop a positive relationship with food, guided by respect and clear communication:

Gratitude and the Ladder: We encourage everyone to take at least one polite bite, to show gratitude towards the person who prepared the food. We use the Food Exploration Ladder to help us get there, starting with putting the food on your plate, then smelling or touching, then licking, then chewing, and finally, taking a bite.

Respectful Choices: We empower children to use specific, kind phrases like "No, thank you," "I do not prefer that," or "Thank you, but I don't want some of that right now." We also gently remind everyone that sometimes liking something can take up to 10 tries!

We encourage you to adopt some of these routines and skills at home to support continued growth and development!

Happy 25th Annual ECE Appreciation Day!

The Bramble Patch Preschool sends our heartfelt appreciation to all Early Childhood Educators and Child Care Workers today, October 21st!

This year’s theme, “Care Counts,” speaks to the very heart of the early years sector. It reminds us that your work is the foundation of society, ensuring our children thrive, grow, and learn in safe and enriching environments every single day. There is truly no education without care.

We salute every essential role in our sector:

Educators in Licensed Child Care Centres and schools,

The crucial support of Consultants and Interventionists,

The devotion of Nannies and Caregivers,

And those of you opening up your home to others, just like we do here at The Bramble Patch.

Your work is invaluable, essential, and truly celebrated today. We recognize the skill and professionalism you bring and stand with the sector in advocating for the respect and value you deserve. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to the early years!

Good Afternoon & Happy First Day of School!

I just want to take some time and write an update to everyone. If you may not know we have been trying different avenues to become licensed to be able to offer Subsidy and CWELCC to members of our community.

At this time we will no longer be pursuing home childcare licensing, but have decided to explore different ways to bring licensed care to Minden/Haliburton.

We want everyone to be able to afford childcare, though we have set rates we always want to work with families to ensure they have access to safe and reliable childcare.

If at any time when you are a part of The Bramble Patch family we will work with you to ensure the cost of childcare isn't unmanageable.

As much as you wish I could offer the reduced rate of $22/day it is not reachable for us at this time.

We love and appreciate all the support you have given us and we look forward to what we can achieve together as a community!

Hello everyone!

It's been a whirlwind of a summer here at the Bramble Patch and as school gears up for another year we are taking a moment to reflect on the ever growing needs within our community.

We are shifting gears over the next few months to bring new programs to our community while still providing the same great quality of care.

As children age out of our program we are going to implement 3 new programs for our community. The first being our Dawn Discovery Program, a morning preschool program for children 2-4 years old.

Our Trail Trekkers program, a dedicated before and afterschool program for children up to 10 years old.

And last our Eager Explores program, our brand new summer camp that will roll out in July 2026.

As we have spaces available in each program we will notify members on our waitlist.

Please reach out with any questions, we are still in the process of adapting our current program to reflect these changes, so our new programs will not be implemented for Sept 2025.

We look forward to hearing from you!
