Alumni Alert! Congratulations to 2019 Brentwood grad Axel Ewashko and current Brentwood rowing coach Steven Rosts on being selected to represent Canada in the Men's straight four at the 2026 World Rowing Senior Championships in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Alumni alert and current student alert!

There were 11 Brentonians - past and present - rowing at the 142nd Royal Canadian Henley Regatta this past week.

UVIC - Isabel Harold ‘25, Eli Baughen ‘24
UBC - Will Hawkins ‘25, Finn Dahlstrom ‘25
Central Catholic Crew - Jed Grieve ‘24
Argo Rowing Club - Lulu Grieve ‘26
VCRC - Sierra G-G ‘27, Anden H ‘27, Aria K ‘28, Kyle R ‘28
Thunder - Anderson R ‘27

There were many highlights over the week, including
Isabel Harold winning three Canadian Henley Gold with her UVIC team. (U23 8+, U23 4- and Women’s Dash 8+)
Will and Finn were 4th in the A final in the U23 Men’s 2-
Lulu and her Argo U19 8+ raced to the semi final narrowly missing a spot in the A final.
Anderson raced in the semi finals of the U19 Men’s 4+
Aria and Kyle placed 4th in the final of the U17 Men’s 4+. Aria was the coxswain for the Vic City U17 Women’s 4+ where they placed 4th in the A final.
Sierra and Anden placed 4th in the U19 8+. Both raced to the semi final in the U194x. Sierra was the 9th fastest U19 single sculler, finishing 3rd in her semi final.

Isabel will return to UVIC to start her third year. Will and Finn return to UBC to start their second year. Lulu starts at Queens University in September. Her brother, Jed, returns to the University of Washington to start his third year. Aria and Kyle return to Brentwood to start their Grade 11 year. Anden, Anderson and Sierra return to start their Grade 12 year.

Alumni Alert! Congratulations to 2025 Brentwood grad, Isabel Harold and her University of Victoria's Under 23 Women's 8+ in winning Royal Canadian Henley gold on Friday morning in St. Catharines, Ontario. There are ten present and former rowers from Brentwood competing at this year's Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. Hopefully will get a group photo before the end of the regatta! Well rowed Isabel!!

Alumni Alert 🚣‍♂️ | Two generations of rowing legends back where it all started.
On the right: Legendary former Head of Rowing, Tony Carr (“The Admiral”), who led Brentwood from 1964 to 2003.
On the left: 1992 grad and current Princeton Men’s Heavyweight Head Coach, Greg Hughes.
Fun fact: Greg rowed in Tony’s 1992 Varsity 8+ crew that brought home the US Scholastic Championship! 🏆
Between these two coaching icons, the stats speak for themselves: 🥇 Multiple High School & Collegiate National Championships 🏅 Dozens of World U23 Championship medalists 🇨🇦🇺🇸 Olympic Gold, Silver, and Bronze medalists
Greg and his daughter Madeline dropped by from New Jersey for a tour of the new Centre for Innovation & Learning and the A.C. Carr Boathouse.
Back in 2004, Greg spearheaded the A.C. Carr Boat Fund to ensure our Varsity 8+ had a new shell every three years. Fast forward to today—with the addition of the John Queen Boat Fund and Women’s Legacy Fund—that vision has grown into an endowment exceeding $1,000,000!
To honor his incredible loyalty and support, Greg officially christened Brentwood’s new coxed four: the Greg Hughes.
As Greg heads back to Princeton for his 18th season at the helm of the Tigers, we wish him all the best. Thank you for everything you’ve given back to Brentwood, Coach!

A special shout out to Grade 10 student Leah S. Leah started rowing at the beginning of January and by the beginning of July here she was representing her region (Zone 2 - Thompson/ Okanagan) at the BC Summer Games. She was entered in the single/double and quad. She made the finals in the quad where her crew finished fourth, one place out of the medals.
Rowing at the BC Summer Games is a great place to have your first experience at a multi-sport event. six years prior to Blair Horn (BCS grad 1979) winning his Olympic Gold medal at the 84 Los Angeles Olympic Games in the Men's 8+, he was stroking the Zone 2 8+ to a gold medal at the 1978 Kelowna BC Summer Games. Congratulations Leah on your participation and efforts at these 2026 BC Summer Games. (Leah is fourth from the left)

What an amazing weekend for Grade 11 student, Will M. Representing Zone 6 (Vancouver Island) at the 2026 BC Summer Games in Vernon BC, Will collected three medals - Men's 2x (bronze), Men's 4x (silver), Mixed 4x (bronze). Congratulations Will!

Alumni alert! Congratulations to 2025 grad, Novella Rusman and her Canadian Women's U23 eight. On Sunday morning the Canadian 8+ placed 5th in the A final at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships. Novella is sitting in bow seat. She will have the next month off before returning to Michigan to start her second year. Well rowed Canada!

Current Student alert! Two of our junior rowers are currently representing their zone at the 2026 BC Summer Games taking place on Swan Lake in Vernon BC. Representing Thompson River/Okanagan Zone 2 is Leah S. Leah will be starting Grade 10 in September. She is racing in the single, double and women’s quad. She will be racing in the semifinal of the single and double on Saturday and rowing in the final of the women’s quad on Saturday afternoon. Will M will be entering Grade 11 in September. He is representing Vancouver Island and Zone 6. He raced in the 1x in the time trial and did not move onto the semi finals. He will race in the semi finals in the men’s double and racing in the final of the men’s quad on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately smoke from fires close to Vernon made the air quality to complete all the races on Friday afternoon. This will make the organizing committee condense the schedule over the weekend so as to get all the races in. Best of luck to Leah and Will with your weekend races!

Alumni Alert! Best of luck to 2025 Brentwood grad, Novella Rusman who is racing for Canada at the 2026 World Rowing Under 23 Championships taking place in Duisburg, Germany. Novella is rowing in bow seat of the Canadian Women's 8+. They will be racing for lanes at 6:08 am PST Thursday, July 23rd. The final will take place on Sunday morning at 2:35 am PST. This is Novella's fourth year representing Canada - three years with the Under 19 team and now her first year with the Under 23 team. She will be returning to the University of Michigan to start her second year at the end of August.

Greg Hughes ('92) is the Head Men's Heavyweight coach at Princeton Rowing - Over the past number of years he and Lori Dauphiny (Women's Head coach) started up the STEM to Stern program - Princeton Rowing's STEM To Stern program has forged a path for change in the sport but increasing access to educational and rowing mentorship opportunities between Princeton's rowers and local youth.
