Simple ways to protect the park:
✔️ Pack out everything you bring in, trash, recyclables, propane bottles, and leftover food
✔️ Stay on designated trails to prevent soil erosion and protect plants
✔️ Keep wildlife wild, observe from a distance, don’t feed animals
✔️ Respect quiet hours and other visitors
✔️ Use fire pits safely and follow fire regulations, never leave a fire unattended

Spot the cougar 👀

With more people out hiking, biking, and enjoying the trails, it’s a good time to talk cougar safety in Cypress Hills.

Cougars live here year-round, and sightings do happen, most encounters are rare, but being prepared makes all the difference.

A few simple tips to stay safe:
• Travel in groups when possible and keep kids close
• Keep dogs on a leash (pets can attract cougars)
• Be extra alert at dawn and dusk
• Make noise while hiking so you don’t surprise wildlife
• If you see a cougar: stay calm, don’t run, maintain eye contact, make yourself look bigger, and back away slowly

If you spot a cougar or signs like tracks or a fresh kill, report it to 310-LAND (5263) or the visitor centre and let others in the area know.
