There are moments in life when you’re reminded just how fortunate you are to have good people standing beside you.

Patrick, thank you.

When I was injured, you didn’t just reach out with kind words, you stepped forward and created something meaningful. You gave your time, knowledge, and energy to bring this horsemanship community together in support of my family and me.

To everyone who rode, audited, shared the clinic, or helped behind the scenes, thank you. The generosity our family has experienced during this season has been incredibly humbling.

At its best, the horse community goes far beyond methods or disciplines. It’s about people showing up for one another and Patrick, you did just that.

Your friendship and generosity mean more than I can adequately put into words.

What if the next step in your horsemanship isn’t another technique but a deeper understanding of what your horse is telling you?

I’m excited to open registration for my new Josh Nichol Mentorship Cohort.

For this Founding Cohort, I’m intentionally keeping the experience small.

There are two ways to join me:

Participant — Receive personalized coaching from me using your own training videos, practical homework, and a follow-up review of your progress.

Observer — Join all four live sessions, learn from real coaching conversations, and participate in the live discussions.

This isn’t about giving you another set of techniques to follow.

It’s about helping you become more aware of what your horse is communicating, why it’s happening, and how you can respond with greater feel and understanding.

The Founding Cohort begins August 18.

If you’re ready to take your understanding of your horse and your horsemanship deeper, I’d love to have you join me.

Registration is officially OPEN for my new Josh Nichol Mentorship Cohort!

I’ve been wanting to create an opportunity where I can work more closely with riders who are ready to deepen their understanding and really explore what’s happening between them and their horse.

That’s what this mentorship is about.

For this Founding Cohort, I’m intentionally keeping the group small so we can create a personal and meaningful learning experience.

There are two ways you can join me:

PARTICIPANT
You’ll have the opportunity to receive personalized coaching from me using your own training videos. I’ll give you practical homework to work through with your horse, and we’ll follow up together to look at what changed and where we can take things next.

OBSERVER
You can join all four live online sessions, learn alongside the participants through their coaching conversations, and take part in our LIVE discussions.

My hope with this mentorship is to help you move beyond simply looking for another technique or exercise.

Our Founding Cohort begins August 18.

If this feels like the next step in your horsemanship, I’d love to have you join me.

How do you know when to ask for more... and when to wait?

That question has shaped so much of my journey with horses.

This Thursday, I'm teaching a live Zoom class with Eclectic Classroom called The Beautiful Middle: Why the Messy Part Is the Point.

We'll explore why the answers aren't usually found in the extremes but in the space between them.

I'm looking forward to joining the Eclectic Classroom this Thursday, August 6, for a live Zoom session called:

The Beautiful Middle: Why the Messy Part Is the Point

We'll explore the space between forcing a horse through a challenge and backing away to keep the peace and why I believe the greatest growth happens somewhere in the middle.

📅 Thursday, August 6 (via Zoom)

Most straightness problems aren't actually straightness problems.

This month, we're focused on understanding straightness, not as a position to achieve, but as the result of balance, connection, and a horse whose mind and body are working together.

Rather than trying to straighten your horse through more rein or more correction, you'll learn to recognize where tension is disrupting movement and how true alignment begins from the inside out.

Throughout the month, we'll explore how disconnected movement, negative balance, and mental focus all influence your horse's ability to stay straight. As you begin to see how the hindquarters, shoulders, and mind work together, you'll be able to respond with greater clarity, helping your horse move with more confidence, softness, and self-carriage.

By the end of the month, you'll have a deeper understanding of why straightness isn't something we create with our hands, it's something that develops naturally when the horse finds balance, organization, and connection throughout their entire body.

For years, one of the questions I hear most often is:

"How do I know what my horse is really trying to tell me?"

The truth is, lasting change doesn't come from collecting more exercises or techniques. It comes from learning to understand why your horse responds the way they do.

That's exactly what I've been working on behind the scenes.
In the coming weeks, we'll be introducing something NEW — a live mentorship experience designed for riders who want to deepen their understanding, ask better questions, and learn through real coaching conversations.

This won't be a large program. We're intentionally keeping it small so every participant has the opportunity to learn in a meaningful way.

We'll soon be opening registration for our Founding Cohort, the very first group to experience this new mentorship journey.

More details will be coming soon....

Pressure, Environment & the Nervous System
Helping your horse stay present in new or stressful situations

📅 July 30 at 7:00 PM MST
🎥 Free live webinar with me + Q&A

Many horses seem calm and connected at home, but everything changes when they enter a new arena, travel somewhere unfamiliar, or feel added pressure.

You may notice tension, spooking, rushing, shutting down, or a horse who suddenly seems unable to hear you.

These reactions are not simply disobedience or a lack of training. They are signs that your horse’s nervous system is working hard to keep them safe.

In this free webinar, we’ll explore how horses experience pressure and changing environments and how your awareness can help your horse remain present without relying on force, control, or escalation.

We’ll explore:

• How pressure and environment affect the nervous system
• What to notice when your horse becomes overwhelmed
• Why regulation must come before training
• One simple practice to help your horse stay present

This session is especially helpful if your horse changes noticeably in new or busy environments, struggles as pressure increases, or if you’re new to Josh Nichol Horsemanship and looking for a clear place to begin.

Everyone is welcome. Live attendance is limited to 100 participants.

Can’t attend live? Register anyway, the replay will be emailed to everyone who registers.

Feel free to share this with someone whose horse may need a little more support when the world around them changes.

It has been three weeks since the accident, and I wanted to take a moment to share a quick update.

Wednesday, I had another appointment with the surgeon, and I’m grateful to say the news was encouraging. My pelvis is back in position, the ligaments are beginning to heal, and I’ve been given the go-ahead to start moving around carefully. While it’ll still be a few months before I’m back in the saddle, it feels good to be moving forward.

I also want to sincerely thank everyone who has reached out, prayed for us, sent messages, helped our family, and supported us over these past few weeks. Your kindness has been incredibly humbling, and I can’t tell you how much it has meant to Cindy, our family, and me.

This recovery has meant making some difficult decisions, including stepping away from Heart of the Horse and cancelling our trip to New Zealand for Equifest. Those weren’t easy choices, but giving my body the time it needs to heal has to come first.

As challenging as this season has been, it has also given me a gift: time. Time to reflect, to learn, to create, and to work on ideas that have been waiting far too long. While I certainly wouldn’t have chosen this path, I’m determined to make the most of it.

I’m looking forward to reconnecting with all of you in the coming weeks. This experience has opened up something new for me, and I’m excited to share it with you in the future. Thank you again for your patience, your encouragement, and for walking this journey with us.

I truly appreciate every one of you.

– Josh
