Well folks….the time has come! Our SCC email has been closed and our page will follow suit on Friday July 16, 2021. Please make sure to follow the GBCS SCC - School Community Council page and also the Georgian Bay Community School page for information about September. GBCS also has a website at https://gbss.bwdsb.on.ca. Your SVE SCC wishes everyone a safe and happy summer and a great start to school com September. We have all enjoyed so much being a part of your school community over the past years. Thanks for following along!

We are already looking forward to next year and welcoming a whole new group of students to our new state-of-art new building! A final note from Principal Dinsmore. We thank her for all of her dedication to SVE and wish her all the best in her new appointment!

Dear SVE Families,

It is hard to start a final farewell! First, I want to thank everyone of you for the opportunity to get to know you and your families. It has been wonderful to reconnect with the Meaford Community and I truly enjoyed the experience! As many of you know in the fall I will be heading off to Holland-Chatsworth as Principal. The New Georgian Bay Community School Administration Team will be Kevin Wilson - Principal, Danielle Carson – Vice Principal and Julie Phillips – Vice Principal, you will be in very good hands as your children transition to the Brand New K- 12 school. The school phone number will be 519- 538-1680 and the Office Manager will be Sherri Page.

The school will run similar to SVE where the start time is 8:55 and end of day is 3:15, there are still two nutrition breaks which include eating time and outdoor play. We will continue to be a Nut Free school so please be sure to check lunch products carefully. All buses will drop off in the bus loop at the front of the school and parent drop off can be accommodated in the parking lot or the drop off zone. We encourage parents to call the office or send a note to let staff know your pick-up arrangements for the first week or two of school, we are anticipating a busy start up! A public Open House will be held later in the Fall if Ministry of Health Guidelines permit public events of that nature.

I would encourage you to sign up for School Messenger if you haven’t already as it is the main form of communication by Bluewater District School Board and any important changes or messages will be distributed through School Messenger.

In closing thank you for all your support, kind words and dedication to your child’s education! I treasure my time at SVE, I will still be around the area and hope we get the chance to smile and say hello again!

In the tradition of the year end family picnic at SVE, we will be hosting a virtual Family Picnic on Friday, June 25th!

Plan a picnic that day with someone you love.

Please be sure to follow all current public health COVID guidelines.

Then share a picture of your picnic with your child's homeroom teacher or post your picture on the SVE SCC page.

Well folks…..as our school year draws to a close so does our SVE SCC. We will be closing this page once the school swag has been received and delivered. Georgian Bay Community School (GBCS) Parent Community Council (PCC). This group is for interested stakeholders in Thornbury and Meaford area. The new GBCS is now open at 197799 Grey Rd. 7, Meaford, Ontario N4L 1W7, the old SVE site.

Dear SVE Families

Your point of entry is the main entrance, please ensure you social distance and exit will be the north east or north west doors.
• As one individual per family will be permitted to enter the school to retrieve belongings, parents are asked not to bring children as there will be no supervision available.
• Individuals will have 10 minutes to pick up belongings. Families with more than one child will need to book additional 10-minute time blocks for each child.
• All persons will sign-in and out of the building at the designated point of entry.
• Any person accessing a school will perform a COVID-19 school screening before arriving at the
school https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/.
• Entry will be denied to any person who has any of the symptoms outlined in the ‘COVID-19
Reference Document for Symptoms’.
• No person who has been exposed to an individual with COVID-19 symptoms will be permitted
access.
• Persons entering the building will have access only to the route to and from their child’s
classroom. Washrooms and drinking fountains will be closed to the public.
• There will be no outdoor supervision and the playground is closed. Staff will not be engaging in
conversations about student achievement with students and parents visiting the school.
• Plastic bags will be provided to collect student items. Bags and other containers are not allowed
to be brought from home.

All persons entering the building will sanitize their hands at the station provided prior to entry, and all persons entering the building. Grade 1 and older including adults, are required to wear a face mask in accordance with our protocols. Those in Kindergarten are encouraged to wear a face mask.
* During the pick-up days, staff may not be available for online learning
* Any unclaimed items will be put in lost & found and/or donated to charity after the final pick-up day.

We have a great opportunity to provide you with 900 booking COVID-19 vaccine appointments on June 4th in Kincardine using the local booking system.
This clinic is for all people that are eligible to book! Including:

youth age 12 and older
high risk healthcare workers who are eligible for an earlier second dose (see High-Risk Health Care Workers Eligible to Receive a Second Dose of the COVID-19 Vaccine at a Shortened Interval | Ontario Newsroom)
Anyone else that has not received their first dose
Anyone else that is eligible

As this is a special local clinic, all appointments must be made through The Local Booking system on the Grey Bruce Health Unit website.

We will be sad to leave the SVE building (at the end of the school year) however we are incredibly excited to move into the new Georgian Bay Community School Building that is almost complete on the SVE site. We are confident that all of the fantastic learning, exciting school events and daily happy memory making opportunities will continue in the new building once we start the 2021-2022 school year in September!
