Adventures in Pre-K: 2023 edition😉

Happy Indigenous Day! Today we celebrated by learning about the seven sacred teachings through movement activities. We also learned about tracking by playing a landmark game. We listened and watched Pow Wow dancing, jigged and made connections to our classroom Tipi by making art. Students have also been beading all week while admiring beadwork by Dene artists. We will continue to learn through play about Indigenous ways of knowing and the many contributions of our Indigenous friends and neighbours. This is an ongoing focus in our school and classroom. I’m happy that 5 of my students will be attending Michif Kindergarten next year!

The transformation process of caterpillars becoming butterflies has been fascinating and beautiful! It has been nearly a month of watching, caring and waiting. Release day was joyful and exciting. Our Painted Ladies are free!

Kindergarten registration is open for the 2023/2024 school year. If you have a child that will be 5 by December 31, 2023, please get them registered for the new school year. We are organizing classes for the fall already, so we need those registrations in as soon as possible. You can pick up a form at the Jubilee front office, print it off online from the division website, or your child's teacher can send one home for you if that works best. You can drop off completed forms to our front office or send them back to school with your child. We are hoping to get welcome letters/information out to families in the next couple of weeks, so please get those registration forms in now. Thank you.

Please wear red today to honour the missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two spirit people! We talked about the importance of valuing and respecting women. We shared what we love about the women in our lives. I know that this is a seed that will grow as they move through the grades at Jubilee. Our responsibility is to teach the truth and I know my colleagues are doing just that. On May 2nd the House of Commons unanimously voted to declare MMIWG+2S a national emergency.
