Looking for a unique cultural experience for your family? Host an international high school student this upcoming school year.

Student exchange organization YES Canada, in partnership with the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board, is welcoming international students from Germany, Italy, Australia, France and Belgium to study at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School this September for 3-, 5-, and 10-month programs.

Students take part in an exchange to experience life in a new community, build relationships, and learn alongside their host family and peers. Host families play an important role in providing an enriching and welcoming environment for students during their time here. YES Canada is urgently seeking host families for students arriving this September.

✨Why host?
• Introduce your family to new cultures and build your global perspective
• Turn the everyday into something new; rediscover your community by sharing your world with your student
• Help a student have an enriching and once-in-a-lifetime experience in Canada
• Create a lifelong friendship that spans the globe

✨What’s involved?
• Welcome the student into your home as a member of your family and have the student participate in your family’s daily life
• Provide three meals a day, a private bedroom, and an area to study
• Provide a safe and nurturing environment
• Be welcoming, open-minded, and supportive of your student

✨What support is there for host families?
• A monthly stipend is provided to offset the cost of hosting
• A dedicated local coordinator in a community for host families and students
• YES Canada’s main office program coordinators provide additional support
• A 24/7 emergency phone line is available for host families and students

🌞 Celebrating a Fun-Filled Year-End Adventure! 🎥🚂🎠

Our primary students (JK–Grade 4) wrapped up the school year with an exciting day out in North Bay!

The day began at the Capitol Centre, where students enjoyed a special screening of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, followed by a beautiful afternoon at the North Bay Waterfront Park. From a scenic ride on the Heritage Train and Carousel to a picnic lunch and hours of play in the sunshine, it was a perfect way to celebrate a wonderful year together. ☀️

A big thank you to Mrs. Cotnam, Miss Burnside, and our incredible EA team for making this memorable experience possible for our students.

The 2025-2026 school year may have ended, but we're still celebrating those who made it special.

On June 23, our Parent Engagement BBQ and Funday was a wonderful success!

We were thrilled to welcome members from the Mattawa detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police - North East Region and Mattawa Fire Department to join us for a delicious BBQ lunch and an engaging presentation on summer safety. Their visit brought learning to life as students had the exciting opportunity to explore emergency vehicles up close, ask questions, and connect with local heroes in a hands-on way.

A heartfelt thank you to:
🔥 Mattawa Fire Department – Chief Shawn Hongell, Firefighter Melanie Burton, and Captain Noelle McIntee
🚔 OPP – Provincial Constable Katie Jodouin, and from the Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT), Provincial Constable Walter Cecchini

We are so grateful for your time, your expertise, and the important role you play in keeping our community safe.

Thank you to all our families who joined us—we loved sharing this special day with you!

🎓✨ Celebrating Our Kindergarten Graduates ✨🎓

Yesterday, our school community came together in the gymnasium as students and their families gathered to celebrate our young graduates in a joyful and memorable ceremony.

The celebration began with an opening prayer led by Miss Korri Burnside, followed by two special presentations: the ABCs of Learning and a beautiful video showcasing the students’ growth from JK to now—a touching reflection of how far they’ve come.

Our SK students proudly performed a song and dance to “From My Heart to Your Heart,” a performance they worked hard to prepare over the past several weeks.

Miss Burnside shared a heartfelt speech, expressing her admiration for this special group of students, who also mark her very first class as a teacher. Miss Pascalle presented each graduate with their awards and certificates, recognizing their achievements and growth.

The celebration continued as we gathered together as a school community to enjoy cake and snacks.

A heartfelt thank you to Miss Burnside and Miss Pascalle for their dedication and care in supporting our students throughout this important milestone.

Congratulations to our Kindergarten graduates—we are so proud of you and can’t wait to see all the wonderful things you will do! 🌟🎉
