It’s one of our most common questions: what’s the difference between fine motor and gross motor skills?
Fine motor skills are all about the small movements - think drawing, stacking blocks, buttoning, or holding a spoon.
Gross motor skills are the big movements, for example running, jumping, climbing, and balancing.
At Wee Watch Licensed Home Child Care, children build both every day through play. From crafts and puzzles to outdoor adventures, dancing, and active games, we’re helping little ones grow their strength, coordination, and confidence in natural, fun ways.

Together Wee Can 2026: Pillars in Programming !
Our Together Wee Can program is thoughtfully designed to celebrate both our amazing Providers and the children in their care. Last year’s Provider Takeover was a huge success, shining a well-deserved spotlight on the creativity, passion, and dedication that make our network so special.
This year, we’re building on that momentum with Together Wee Can: Pillars in Programming! We’ll be highlighting the innovative activities, learning opportunities, and nurturing environments that our Providers create every day.
Through this program, we celebrate your talents, share inspiring ideas, and strengthen our home child care community - showing the very best of what home-based child care has to offer.

This year’s Human Rights Day theme, “Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials,” reminds us that dignity, equality, and justice are part of our daily lives, even in small, everyday actions. At Wee Watch Licensed Home Child Care, we see these values come to life every day as our Providers nurture respectful, inclusive, and caring environments for all children.
From teaching kindness and sharing to celebrating each child’s unique abilities, early childhood is a crucial time to model respect, empathy, and fairness. By embedding these principles into everyday activities, we help children understand the importance of human rights and their role in building a compassionate community.
Together, we can foster spaces where every child feels valued, heard, and supported.

We already know that fresh air helps kids feel good but outdoor play is so much more than a mood-booster. It’s essential to healthy development.
Time outside doesn’t just burn off energy; it shapes bodies, minds, and social skills in ways indoor play simply can’t match. When children explore the outdoors, we see bolder movement, deeper problem solving, richer conversations, and endless creativity. Sticks become tools, mud becomes a canvas, and open space becomes a world of possibilities.
That is the quiet power of outdoor play and why it remains a core part of quality early learning at Wee Watch.

As we wrap up the year, we’re focusing on Imaginative Play this month—because it ties together everything we’ve learned and developed throughout the year! 🌟 Imagination plays a vital role in a child’s growth, fueling creativity, problem-solving, and personal development. It’s a key driver for cognitive, language, gross and fine motor, and social-emotional skills. Imaginative play truly is the ultimate child development booster! 🚀✨
Imaginative Play—also known as dramatic play, pretend play, or make-believe—allows children to explore without rules or structure. They don’t need fancy toys or props—sometimes a simple sheet and some chairs can become a magical fort, or a cardboard box can transform into a pirate ship or rocket! The possibilities are endless, and the benefits are HUGE. 🎭🛸

As a Ministry-licensed home child care program, safety is always our top priority. Because we operate under the licensing standards of the Ontario Ministry of Education, we follow clear regulations that support children’s health, safety, learning, and overall well-being every day.
Outdoor play takes place throughout the year, including winter. Fresh air and active play are important parts of your child’s development, and we go outdoors daily whenever conditions are safe. Please ensure your child arrives dressed appropriately for the weather with warm layers, hats, mittens, waterproof boots, and snow pants help keep everyone comfortable and ready to participate.
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us provide a safe and positive experience for all children in our care.
