Tantrums aren’t “bad behaviour”—they’re communication. 💬✨
When a child experiences a meltdown or pushback, it’s rarely just about the wrong jacket or refusing spaghetti. Behavior is a language, and every tantrum has an underlying message!
Swipe through to see 3 things your child might actually be trying to tell you:
1️⃣ “This has helped me get what I wanted before”
2️⃣ “I need control”
3️⃣ “I don’t have words for this yet”
Understanding why a behavior happens is the first step toward teaching supportive, positive alternatives that build skills and independence.

Summer Suns out, Playdates in! 🧩✨
Summer break is finally here, and while we love the relaxed schedules and sunny days, the lack of school routine can sometimes feel a bit unmooring for our kiddos on the autism spectrum.
But here’s the good news: Summer is actually the absolute best time to focus on social skills and set up playdates! ---
🏝️ Why Summer is Playdate Prime Time
Zero School Fatigue: After a long day of academic and sensory overload at school, kids are often too exhausted for social demands. In the summer, their "social battery" is much fuller!
Flexible Schedules: Without rigid school hours, you can schedule playdates during your child’s peak energy and mood times (like right after a morning snack).
Low-Pressure Environments: Backyard water play, a quiet park, or an uncrowded museum allow for natural, low-stress interactions that feel like fun, not work.
🤝 The Secret Weapon: Therapist-Facilitated Playdates
While the benefits are huge, we know that organizing a playdate can feel overwhelming for parents. Will they share? What if there’s a meltdown? How do I help them interact?
That is where having one of our therapists step in changes the entire game. We don’t just watch; we actively facilitate success behind the scenes by:
Pre-Teaching Skills: Before the friend even arrives, we practice key social skills (like greeting, asking to share, or choosing a game) using visual supports and role-play.
Scaffolding Interactions: We act as a gentle bridge between the kids—prompting communication, helping them read peer cues, and keeping the momentum going without taking over the fun.
Navigating Big Feelings: If sharing gets tough or sensory overload hits, we are right there to implement proven regulation strategies in real-time, keeping the experience positive for everyone.
Setting Up the Perfect Environment: We help choose activities based on shared interests and structure the playdate so it has a clear beginning, middle, and end.
Summer is fleeting, but the social confidence your child can build during these months lasts a lifetime! Let’s turn playtime into growth time.
📅 Want to schedule a facilitated playdate for your child this summer? Send us a DM or chat with your BCBA at your next session to get it on the calendar! 📞👇

WHAT IS ABA? 🤔
Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) is a framework for evidence-based practices that guides how we change our behaviours based on events that happen in our environment, and it has seven core elements. While some people associate ABA with a specific type of program, such as Discrete Trial Training (DTT), it ranges from child-directed, play-based interventions to structured adult-driven table tasks, all to address the deficits and difficulties in learning that children with autism may face. When an ABA program is selected, its components address specific skills for the child. There are four stages of learning that everyone goes through when learning a new skill: acquisition, fluency, maintenance, and generalization. ABA provides specific teaching strategies to target skills that bridge the gap between individuals' desired competence and current level.
