October 18th is ECE and child care worker appreciation day. We are thankful for our amazing staff. Their work is complex, challenging, rewarding and essential. Their skills in communication, empathy, creativity, emotional intelligence, humour, time management, stress management and on and on are what ensure our community children are in spaces where they know they belong, where they feel valued, secure and can thrive.

Happy Early Childhood Educator and Child Care worker Appreciation Day 2021

Those of us that have been in the field of ECE for years have always known how essential quality child care is to children, families, and the community and the pandemic has highlighted how very true this is. And while the ECE’s and Child Care workers make this work look effortless we know that it is challenging, requiring skill, knowledge, talent, empathy and courage and it is anything but effortless.

The daily interactions that build relationships create a place where children know they belong. When they know that they belong - that this is their space they can engage in activities that allow them to grow and explore at their pace. This allows them to express themselves in their unique creative way. All of this facilitates their well being. When the children are in the place that they belong the family can contribute in the community in meaningful ways.

To all of our ECE’s and child care worker hero’s- you have our gratitude and appreciation for all that you do!

Child care is a more current and professional term for the important work our staff do everyday. The CHILD is at the centre of what we do, not the DAY.

As we prepare for the return to in-class learning and our B&A programs our staff are very excited to see the children and their families again. Inspired by Dr Jean Clinton, Goldie Hawn’s Mind Up program and Cheryl Ward from Forward Motion Yoga our staff engaged in a workshop “Just Breath.” We learned about the benefits to our health and wellness when we STOP and take a BREATH BREAK.

STOP= Stop. Take a breath. Observe. Proceed
And for kids:
STOP= Stop. Take a breath. Oh-how do I feel? Play.

Once WE have taken a breath and found the calm within us we can than SHARE OUR CALM with others around us, such as the children.

Thank you to Cheryl from Forward Motion for showing our staff some new skills to help us with self care of our mental health and wellness and also how to SHARE OUR CALM with others.
