**OUR FRONTLINE WORKERS NEED TO KNOW THIS:**
You can be the person everyone else calls in a crisis and still have moments when **you are struggling too.**
Police officers. RCMP members. Firefighters. Paramedics. Dispatchers. Corrections officers. Security professionals. Emergency responders.
You see things that many people will never see. You respond when others are running away. You carry responsibility, trauma, stress, and sometimes the expectation that you should simply be able to handle it.
But being strong does not mean never struggling.
And having thoughts of su***de, feeling overwhelmed, or realizing that you need help should not be something you have to hide in silence because you are afraid of what others will think.
We need to continue breaking the stigma.
Asking for help should be seen as a sign of awareness and strength—not weakness.
For frontline professionals, there can be legitimate concerns around safety, fi****ms, equipment, fitness for duty, and operational responsibilities. Those concerns need to be handled appropriately.
But there is an important difference between:
“You need support right now.” and "Your career is over.”
No one should feel that staying silent is safer than asking for help.
We need workplaces and organizations where frontline staff know there is a path forward—a path that includes support, treatment, peer connection, time to recover when needed, and a safe return to the work they care about.
If you're struggling, you don't have to wait until things become unbearable.
Talk to someone. Reach out to someone you trust. Connect with your peer support program, employee assistance program, doctor, counsellor, union, supervisor, or another support person.
And if you are thinking about su***de or are worried about someone else:
Call or text 9-8-8, Canada's Su***de Crisis Helpline, available 24/7.
To every person who puts on a uniform, answers the phone, responds to the call, walks into danger, or supports others through their worst day:
You are allowed to have a hard day.
You are allowed to struggle.
You are allowed to ask for help.
And you do not have to carry it alone.
