Louis Riel Day — November 16

On November 16, the Superior-Greenstone District School Board honours Louis Riel and the enduring strength of the Métis Nation. We recognize Riel’s leadership in advocating for Métis rights, culture, language, and self-determination, and we commit to ongoing learning and action in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation.

We invite students, staff, and families to learn about Métis history and the significance of the Métis sash, Red River Resistance, and Riel’s legacy in shaping Canada. Maarsii/Thank you to our Métis community members for their knowledge, partnership, and contributions to our schools.

It’s Rock Your Mocs Week! 🥿✨

This week, the Superior-Greenstone District School Board proudly celebrates Rock Your Mocs — a movement that honours Indigenous identity, culture, and pride.

Students, staff, and community members are encouraged to wear their moccasins to celebrate the rich traditions, languages, and stories of Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island.

Together, we walk in unity, respect, and celebration — embracing the strength of culture and the beauty of community.

On International Inuit Day, we celebrate the rich culture, languages, and resilience of Inuit communities across Canada and the Arctic. Founded by the Inuit Circumpolar Council in 2006, this day honors the legacy of Eben Hopson, a leader who emphasized the strength of a united Inuit voice. Today, we recognize the identities and contributions of Inuit people from Canada, Alaska, Greenland, and Russia. Let’s join together to uplift and honor Inuit voices!

Miigwech to all the staff and students for all the meaningful learning opportunities that students have today, throughout the week, and the year. Truth and Reconciliation is not a "one day" thing, it is a way forward that the path is walked every day.

On September 30, flags at all Superior-Greenstone District School Board schools and offices will be flown at half-mast from sun up to sun down in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We honour Survivors, their families, and communities, and remember the children who never returned home.
