Meet our newest cello instructor Laine! 🎶

Laine Longton began playing cello at the age of 5 in Victoria, BC. Daughter of Michael Longton, a professor of music theory and composition and a pianist, and Sheila Longton, an oboist, she quickly developed a deep love of music. Laine holds two music degrees; a Bachelor of Music in Performance with Distinction from the University of Victoria, and a Masters of Music in Performance and Literature at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. She has studied with Gail O’Riordan (Victoria), Pamela Highbaugh Aloni (UVic), Dmitry Kouzov (University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign), Guido Schiefen (Germany), Martin Rummel (Germany), violinist Denes Zsigmondy (Hungary), and Eric Wilson (UBC).

Laine has been a core member of the Vancouver Island Symphony in Nanaimo since 2014. She has been an active member of the freelance community since she moved to Vancouver in 2012 including being an extra cellist with the Vancouver Symphony, Vancouver Opera, and the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra. She performs in the pit orchestra of musical theatre productions including Fun Home (ArtsClub Theatre), Parade (Raincity Theatre), and A Little Night Music (PatrickStreet Productions).

Laine recently attended Vancouver Film School to receive a Diploma of Film Production. She enjoys exploring another side of creativity. She is also a visual artist painting with thick oil paints and exploring texture.

🚗⏰ Great Scott! Join us on June 13th as we celebrate Eduardo Baena's final recital with Bergthorson Academy before his retirement.

Since joining the Academy in 2005, Eduardo has inspired generations of students through his passion for music and dedication to teaching. We are incredibly grateful for his 21 years of service and the lasting impact he has made on our community.

To mark the occasion, a Back to the Future-style DeLorean will be making a special appearance as we look back on the memories, music, and milestones of Eduardo's time at Bergthorson Academy.

Making his return to the live music scene, Bo Henrik, rising Swedish-born Vancouver-based artist and producer is launching his highly anticipated debut album ‘I’ll Deal With It When I’m Sober’ on April 17th at Fortune Sound Club. This will be an artistic experience merging Alternative R&B, Jazz, and Hip Hop, featuring some of the country’s most talented instrumentalists, and with support from local favourites TK The Artist, Adewolf, and Kid Filthy.
