Joyce Stuber joined the Dunmore Equestrian Society at its second organizational meeting in 2014, stepping into a role that has grown alongside the facility itself. Joyce and her family have deep roots in the western way of life and the ranching community. Together with her husband, Darwin, and their family,Austin and Chrissy, and Wyatt and Kenzie, they own and operate a multi-generational ranch, continuing a proud family tradition rooted in agriculture, horsemanship, and community.
Her experience in the team roping community, where she managed timing and participant registration, reinforced the need for a year-round indoor equestrian facility in southeastern Alberta and inspired her commitment to helping make that vision a reality.
From the Society's early days, when it operated solely with an outdoor arena, Joyce devoted countless volunteer hours to maintaining the grounds after events. As the organization grew, so did her role. Today, she works behind the scenes managing bills, financial records, and invoices, the essential administrative backbone that keeps the facility running smoothly.
Joyce's greatest passion is the Senior Pet Visit Program, an initiative she envisioned and built from the ground up. Inspired by her love of animals and her desire to bring companionship to seniors, Joyce has led the program's growth from visits to a few care homes into a cherished initiative that now serves seniors in multiple residences across Medicine Hat and Bow Island. She continues to coordinate visits, build partnerships, and create meaningful experiences through the Egg-to-Chicken Hatch, Butterfly Hatch and live animal visits. Many of the seniors have farming and ranching backgrounds, and these visits spark treasured memories, conversations, and connections to a way of life that remains close to their hearts.
Joyce continues to be a steady, committed presence within the Dunmore Equestrian Society, a founding influence, a hands-on volunteer, and a heart-forward leader who has helped shape the Society into the thriving organization it is today.
