We’re excited to introduce Madad Ali, NPARA’s Newest addition to the Research Team!

With an M.Sc. in Plant Breeding & Genetics and experience in hybrid production, crop management, and agricultural research, Ali brings a strong interest in practical, data-driven research to the NPARA team.

From exploring crop research and field trials to designing a w**d control project for 2027, Madad is looking forward to putting his knowledge to work and contributing to research that can be useful to farmers across the Peace Region.

On September 3, the Cattle Club got out into the field for a look at a local producer’s corn crop!

Participants had the opportunity to walk through the field, talk corn varieties, and learn more about a producer who has been growing corn for quite some time. It was a great opportunity to see the crop firsthand and discuss the practical considerations of growing corn for grazing in the North Peace.

Sam was able to share his experiences with corn varieties and what he typically likes when growing corn.

And we’re not done yet! 👀🌽

This field tour will be followed up with a Winter Corn Grazing Tour in January with Dr. Bart Lardner, where we’ll get to see how the crop has performed and learn more about winter grazing corn.

Thanks to everyone who joined us in the field, and a special thanks to the local producer for sharing his experience and crop with the group!

🌱 SOIL TALK WITH JOEL WILLIAMS

This summer, NPARA was excited to welcome Joel Williams, soil specialist with Integrated Soils, to the Peace Region as part of his Alberta tour with ARECA associations.

Joel joined us on July 30th for our NPARA Farm and Field Tour and again on July 31st for a more in-depth discussion focused on understanding your soil test and, more importantly, knowing what to do with the information it gives you.

His sessions covered:
🧪 Understanding soil sample analysis and reading your own reports
📋 What those numbers actually mean for your soil and crops
🌱 How soil test results can help guide amendments and management decisions
🔄 What different amendments typically do and how they interact with each other
🔎 What to look for when deciding what your soil may actually need

A big thank you to Joel for sharing his knowledge and helping producers take a closer look at the information already sitting in their soil reports!

Mental health is part of agriculture, and sometimes the hardest part is simply knowing how to start the conversation.

NPARA is hosting Talk Ask Listen, a workshop from The Do More Agriculture Foundation designed to build practical skills and confidence for talking about mental health, asking questions, and listening to those around us. This is a conversation-focused workshop — not therapy or counselling — and is designed with agricultural communities in mind.
