Mr. Casey
Most of you know Mr. Casey and his dedication to our club. He shows up to all testings, attends all tournaments to support our students. He has been a staple in our instructor ranks and is truly beloved by our students and staff.
Mr. Casey is retiring next Tuesday from the Fire Department and focusing on the club. Here is a write up from this Chief, highlighting a tremendous career.
We are thankful to you Mr. Casey and glad we get to have you in the next stage of your life.

Retirement Announcement – Fire Inspector Darren Casey
After nearly 29 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Halifax, the Halifax Professional Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 268, is proud to recognize the upcoming retirement of Brother Darren Casey, effective September 29, 2026.
To honor Darren’s career and wish him well as he begins this next chapter, all members, retirees, colleagues, friends, and anyone who has worked alongside him over the years are invited to attend a retirement gathering:

Darren began his service on September 29, 1997, as part of the first amalgamated city fire department recruit class. From his early days at Station 9 to his many years at Stations 2 and 3, Darren built a reputation as a dependable, skilled, and well‑respected firefighter.
Throughout his career, Darren contributed to multiple divisions, including Operations, Training, and Logistics, before joining Fire Prevention two years ago as a Fire Inspector. His transition into Fire Prevention late in his career demonstrated that professional growth has no timeline. Darren embraced the role with enthusiasm, took on every training opportunity, and quickly became an integral part of the division. He often remarked that these final two years were among the most rewarding of his career.
Outside the fire service, Darren’s energy and passion continue to shine. He will carry on teaching Tae Kwon Do, mentoring youth, and, by his own words, creating more “little ninjas”. He also remains a proud lumberjack, and he's ok. We hope he continues swinging axes, rolling logs, and sawing wood with the same spirit he brought to the job.
While Darren is excited for what lies ahead, he has made it clear that he will miss the people he has worked beside for nearly three decades. The friendships, camaraderie, and shared experiences built over 29 years will remain important to him, and he has already promised that retirement won’t keep him away for long.
On behalf of the Halifax Professional Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 268, we thank Brother Casey for his years of service, dedication, humour, and the many contributions he has made to the fire service and to the community he served. His legacy will endure, and we know he will continue to make a positive impact wherever he goes.
Congratulations on your retirement, Darren. You’ve earned it.
