On Terry Fox Day, we honour a legacy of courage, determination, and hope. Terry’s journey continues to inspire us to work together for a better future and to show our students the power of perseverance and compassion.

Happy Canada Day! Today we celebrate the diverse communities, cultures, and shared values that shape our country. As educators, we remain committed to fostering learning, respect, and opportunity for every student, in every community.

We have reached the last day of the school year, and we'd like to wish all Seine River students and staff a restful, relaxing summer! With students away today, SRTA members are hard at work finishing things up before leaving for the summer break, and the SRTA is doing the same today!

First up, we want to thank all three of our high schools for inviting SRTA president Jonathan Waite to their graduation ceremonies. It was a great honour for Jonathan to be at these fantastic events, and he was happy to present three students with SRTA Education Bursaries.

Next, we want to let folks know that the June 2026 edition of "The Seine Scene" is now available at our website. This year-end issue is jam packed with updates and articles from SRTA members. View it at https://buff.ly/ZJDR4ho

Finally, we want to give our member the heads-up that an email is coming later this afternoon which provides many updates on employee benefits and salaries. If you are an SRTA member (or are going to be one in September) and have not yet signed up for the email list, you can do so at our website https://www.srta.ca.

The SRTA office will be closed starting at 4 pm today, and will open back up on September 8, 2026. Until then, have a fantastic summer!

Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we honour the histories, cultures, and continuing contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Turtle Island.

As educators, we carry a responsibility to continue learning, to teach truthfully, and to create spaces where Indigenous voices, perspectives, and ways of knowing are respected and reflected. This day is both a celebration and a call to action—one that asks us to deepen our commitment to reconciliation in our classrooms, schools, and communities.

We encourage all educators to take time today to learn, reflect, and engage with Indigenous knowledge in meaningful and respectful ways.

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and father figures in our teaching community.

Your care, patience, and dedication make a difference both at home and in our classrooms every day. Thank you for all that you do.

Big thanks to all members of SRTA council for a successful 2025-2026! At tonight’s meeting, amidst multiple weather alerts, we (quickly) got the work done to cap off the year, and set a budget and a fee for next year. Our appreciation gift this year was t-shirts, which we hope Council members wear with pride!

SRTA President Jonathan Waite is marching with MTS at this year‘s Winnipeg Pride Parade. He hopes to see many teachers and students along the parade route! 

Petition to End Notwithstanding Clause Use - CTF-FCE Governments are enacting the notwithstanding clause to deny human and democratic rights – and it’s at the expense of youth, educators, and all workers.
