Graduate Studies in History - Western University Graduate degrees in history have been granted at Western for more than a century. We invite you to become part of this proud tradition. and M.A.

The department enjoys an excellent reputation both nationally and internationally, and is ranked among the top one hundred history departments in the world. Our faculty is large, diverse, and distinguished. Our course offerings are rich and varied in both geographic focus and methodological approach. We have deep strengths in Canadian history, the history of international relations and conflict, environmental history, and public history, with courses and eminent scholars in many other areas as well. And we are a recognized leader in the new digital history and digital humanities. We invite applicants for our Ph.D. programs to visit Western, tour the library and the Department's fantastic facilities, and meet possible supervisors and current graduate students.

The History Department at the University of Guelph is once again hosting its Rural History Roundtable. The first one for 2026-27 will take place next Tuesday, September 22 from 3:30-5:00pm EST. Western's own Dr. Cody Groat and Rebecca Small will give a talk titled “Understanding Poverty and Community at the Ingersoll Rural Cemetery Potter's Field."

This presentation will be in a hybrid format. The in-person presentation will take place at Room 132 of the MacKinnon Building on the University of Guelph campus. If you wish to attend online, please pre-register on the Eventbrite page. Registering for a free ticket will add you to a list of attendees who will receive an email on the afternoon of September 22 containing the Zoom link to the online presentation. Please register before 2:30pm EST on the day of the presentation to ensure you receive the Zoom link in time.
