Grade 9 Tech students got a hands-on introduction to the world of Skilled Trades during their visit to LiUNA Local 1059! They toured the facility, explored different career opportunities and put their skills to the test. From getting familiar with surveying equipment to assembling concrete forms and practising concrete finishing techniques, students had the chance to experience what it takes to work in the trades firsthand. Thanks for hosting us!

How can we love our neighbours through our words? Grade 11 students explored this question during a unit on oral communication, discovering how thoughtful questions and attentive listening can turn everyday conversations into meaningful connections. They then stepped beyond the classroom for a morning at a London nursing home, where they interviewed seniors, listened to their stories and practised the art of making others feel seen and valued. Through the experience, students discovered that conversation is more than a skill—it’s an opportunity to show hospitality, build relationships and love our neighbours well.

LCH students recently enjoyed their first Focus Day of the year… but what is a Focus Day?

For each course taken in a semester, LCH students participate in a Focus Day: an opportunity to step outside the normal 75-minute class schedule and spend a full day focused on just one subject! Focus Days often include special projects, field trips, guest speakers, and even certification courses. Stay tuned for their stories...

“[My co-op] was an answer to prayer. I originally was looking to work with a speech pathologist (every speech pathology firm in the greater London area has heard from me) and I got nothing… [Now] I'm in a kindergarten classroom and they have four students with autism who are struggling with their speech.

I'm working with them pretty much every day, with their speech and practicing different sounds, because they don't have a speech pathologist right now. And I've really enjoyed it. I'm going to Western for Linguistics, and then I'm going to use that to do speech pathology for children. Everything that I'm going to do in the future, I'm getting to do right now.”

"I'm now more sure of who I am and what I can do, but also what I can do with God. Back in grade 9, I was a bit iffy about [my faith]... but I think having such solid, consistent support and people to go to who can help give information and clarify things has been really helpful. I found a really good community here and I've stuck with the same friends since grade nine... It's really nice to be able to encourage each other and feel open to talk about our faith with each other.”

The water may have been cold, but Grade 11 Biology students jumped into the world of biomonitoring with both feet!
🌊🔬
Armed with field sampling techniques, students broke into teams and explored different sections of the Thames River, searching for tiny aquatic creatures like insect larvae, worms, crustaceans and snails—as well as collecting samples of the water itself to assess micro-organisms later. Since the various species on their list have different levels of tolerance to pollution and environmental change, the variety and quantity of lifeforms found gave students clues to the river’s overall health.

Construction on LCH’s new technology wing begins shortly! This project will add more than 13,000 square feet of space to our school and includes an auto shop, machining, manufacturing and fabricating shops, a design lab, classrooms and a greenhouse. We can’t wait to see this project come to life!

Grade 11 Art students are developing their still life drawing and sighting skills! They’re learning to slow down, carefully observe their subject before they sketch, and use their drawing tool as a measuring tool to help get proportions right. At the heart of this work is observation: learning to draw what’s actually there rather than what our brains think we see—not as easy as it sounds! 👀✏️
