GatewayLiteracy is part of the Gateway Program delivered through the Thames Valley District School Board. We are an Adult Literacy and Basic Skills upgrading program helping adults prepare to complete their high school diploma, to enter post secondary or apprenticeship programs, to prepare for employment opportunities, or to feel more confident about managing day to day tasks. There are many classes throughout the TVDSB. This is the class website for A125 at Wheable, but feel free to access any content that would be helpful to you.

I honour the survivors, their families, and the children who never returned to their families. May the truth be fully told so reconciliation can lead to healing and a good future for all.

Residential Schools were created by the Canadian government to intentionally strip Indigenous people of their culture and their traditions, forcing them into a Euro-Canadian way of life.

Students who were sent to Residential Schools were often treated very poorly and were severely punished for breaking rules, acknowledging their Indigenous heritage or speaking their own language. Survivors have spoken about horrible acts of abuse at the hands of Residential School staff.
