Why do homeschool families choose HSLDA?

Every family’s homeschool journey looks a little different, and sometimes having trusted support in your corner can make all the difference.

One parent recently shared that, as she homeschools children with special needs, she joined HSLDA to feel more prepared, supported and confident as she navigates their unique educational needs.

Homeschooling gives us the opportunity to meet our children where they are, but we don’t have to navigate every question on our own.

Whether you’re looking for guidance, resources, advocacy or simply the reassurance of knowing support is available when you need it, HSLDA Canada can be a valuable resource throughout your homeschool journey.

What made you decide to become an HSLDA member?

Why Do the Great Books Matter?

Education is about more than academics—it’s about developing wisdom, character, discernment and a lifelong love of learning.

Great literature invites our children into meaningful conversations about courage, justice, faith, citizenship and what it means to live well.

HSLDA Canada members can explore the full Great Books Guide and download the Great Books reading list through the Member Site.

Have you started your homeschool year yet?

It’s that time of year when homeschool families are all in different places—and that’s one of the beautiful things about home education!

Some families have already jumped into books and routines.
Some are starting this week.
Some are waiting until after Labour Day.
And others homeschool year-round or ease into the year slowly.

There’s no one “right” start date. One of the gifts of homeschooling is having the flexibility to choose a rhythm that works for your family.

So tell us…when are you starting your homeschool year?

Are you feeling ready and excited, or are you still hanging onto summer for just a little longer?

Homeschooling comes with so much freedom—but with the abundance of resources available, it can sometimes be hard to know where to begin.

Patty Marler, HSLDA's Media Relations Specialist, shares about the many benefits and resources available through HSLDA and how families can navigate the wealth of homeschooling support available to them.

One of the beautiful things about homeschooling is that we can be inspired by those who have gone before us. We can seek wisdom and perspective from homeschool parents who are further down the path, learn from their experiences, and leverage the resources available to us.

But ultimately, we get to make homeschooling our own.

We get to take what inspires us and thoughtfully create the plans, rhythms, resources, and experiences that best serve our children and bring learning to life within our own homes.

Gather wisdom. Find inspiration. Then build a homeschool that is uniquely yours.

If you’re new to homeschooling and feeling a little overwhelmed, know that you don’t have to have everything figured out on day one. So much of homeschooling is learning what works for your family as you go.

For those who have been homeschooling for a while, let’s encourage the families just beginning their journey:

We love hearing how families first discovered HSLDA and what ultimately led them to become members.
