The cycle that brings all life into this beautiful world.
“Blood is magic, blood is holy, and wholly riveting of our attention.
Menstrual blood is the only source of blood that is not traumatically induced, yet in modern society, this is the most hidden blood . . . so rarely spoken of and almost never seen, except by women, who shut themselves in a little room to privately and in many cases disgustedly change their pads and tampons, wrapping the bloodied cotton so it won’t be seen by others . . . flushing or hiding the evidence away.
Blood is everywhere, and yet the one, the only, the single name it has not publicly had for many centuries is menstrual blood. Menstrual blood, like water, just flows. It’s fountain existed long before knives or flint. Menstruation is the original source of blood.
Menstrual is blood’s secret name. All blood is menstrual blood.”

Our autonomic nervous system (ANS) is amazing.
HypnoBirthing teaches us how to quickly shift from the Sympathetic Sphere, which is great for emergencies, into our Parasympathetic Sphere, our healing space, with our endorphins running high - which prevent our stress hormones from taking over.
Stress hormones cause more prolonged and painful uterine contractions and reduce blood supply to the uterus and the baby. The more scared we are, the more adrenaline our bodies release. This feedback loop prepares us to fight, flee, freeze and fawn.
HypnoBirthing teaches us that for every thought and emotion there is a corresponding body response.

So beautifully said.
“All the eggs a woman will ever carry form in her ovaries while she is a four-month-old fetus in the womb of her mother.
This means our cellular life as an egg begins in the womb of our grandmother.
Each of us spent five months in our grandmother's womb, and she in turn formed in the womb of her grandmother.
We vibrate to the rhythm of our mother's blood before she herself is born, and this pulse is the thread of blood that runs all the way back through the grandmothers to the first mother.

Celebrating the beginning of a person's fertility cycle is so important.
“Today, a woman’s first menstruation often passes unmarked, although most other cultures have recognized the depth of this change in a women’s life. The sacredness of menstrual blood was recognized by most traditional societies; women during their moontime were believed to have great power. And nothing was so powerful as a woman’s first blood flow. What once was cause for celebration — that a new woman could now bring life to her people — is today something hidden, perhaps even shameful.
Finding a way to reclaim me**es from the negativity shrouding it is a difficult and challenging task. But as long as women shrink from reclaiming the power that participation in the great universal cycles once brought us, we will not be fully empowered as women within our families and our society.
~ Patricia Monaghan, The Goddess Companion, May 22
“She should realize that the change which has taken place in her is sacred, for now she will be as Mother Earth . . . She should know that each month when her blood arrives she bears influence.”
