Hello all!

If you can, let's just take a quick moment - stretch your body, breath deeply into your belly, take sip of cold water - let your body take a moment to rest.

September feels big. I am sending you supportive thoughts - you can absolutely do this, you likely already are.

If there is something I can do to help you please just let me know - that's my September goals.

Creative Movement is a new program that Together OT is offering this fall! It feels like it brings all of the good sensory, interoception, body based communication and peer connection together into a one hour group.

When we were first planning we thought we would try two different age groups, but we are pivoting based on family feedback:

Both Thursday (6:15-7:15 pm) and Saturday (3:00 - 4:00 pm) will be ages 6 years old and up.

60 min sessions - $100
Eligible for OT services funding (private insurance, Ontario Autism Program, Metis Nation Ontario, etc.)
Run by: Bizz (OTA), supervised by Heather (OT)

Reach out with any questions - [email protected]

Snack Skills
Fridays | 4:00 - 6:00 pm
Ages 10 - 14
120 mins | $150 per session

Snack Skills brings the practical, social and problem-solving fun of "Skills for Supper" to snack-sized recipes! Each week, the group will work together to choose a snack, plan what they need, figure out the cost, head across the street to shop, and return to prepare their creation.

Along the way, participants practise problem solving, decision making, time management, flexible thinking, turn taking and confidence - all through a real-life, hands-on experience. Using snack recipes also means there can be less pressure around eating a full meal. Participants can focus on the planning, shopping, preparing and social parts of the experience, with the opportunity to try the snack if they feel comfortable.

It’s a chance to build practical skills while working together, making choices and having fun with food. The group is supported by Alexis and Danielle (OTAs), along with an adult university student volunteer who has a current Police Record Check.
With a maximum of four clients, there is lots of opportunity to participate, contribute ideas and learn from one another.

Creative Movement
Thursdays | 6:00 - 7:00 pm | Ages 6–10
OR
Saturdays | 3:00 - 4:00 pm | Ages 10–14
60 mins | $100 per session

Creative Movement is an adaptive, non-traditional movement program where participants can discover movement as a tool for self-regulation, self-expression and joy!

Rather than focusing on learning a particular style of dance, we explore each participant’s own relationship with rhythmic movement and expression. Activities are designed to be approachable for children who use verbal language and those who communicate in other ways.

Classes may include:
- Sensory warm-ups
- Strength, mobility and balance activities
- Action songs and rhymes
- Dance skill instruction
- Creative movement through games, improvisation and storytelling

Together, we’ll explore our bodies’ relationship to space, time, energy and emotion - noticing how movement can help us connect with ourselves and the world around us. There’s room to move, experiment, be silly, learn new skills and find the kinds of movement that feel good to you.

The group is supported by Bizz (OTA), along with two adult university student volunteers who have a current Police Record Check. With a maximum of four children, there is lots of opportunity to participate, contribute ideas and learn from one another.

Art Collective
Tuesdays | 2:00 - 3:30 pm
Maximum 3 participants
90 mins | $125 per session

Art Collective is a space to create, explore and express yourself through art. Each week, we’ll offer an artistic project that can be completed together with the group or worked on alongside others. Participants can follow the project as presented, put their own spin on it, or use the materials in whatever way inspires them to create something completely their own. There’s no “right” way to make art here - just opportunities to explore materials, experiment with ideas and enjoy the creative process.

The group is run by Alexis (OTA) along with a university student volunteer who has a current Police Record Check. With a maximum of three participants, there’s plenty of space to create at your own pace, share ideas and enjoy being creative alongside peers

Skills for Supper
Mondays | 5:15 - 7:15 pm
Ages 8 - 12 | Maximum 4 children
120 min | $150 per session

What happens when you give kids a recipe, a budget and a trip to the grocery store? You get Skills for Supper!

Each week, the group works together to: Choose a recipe, make a shopping list, budget the cost of ingredients, head across the street to shop, prepare the meal together and, when they're comfortable, try what they've made!

Along the way, children are practising important everyday skills including problem solving, decision making, time management, flexible thinking, turn taking and confidence - all within a fun, practical and social experience.

The group is supported by Alexis and Danielle (OTAs), along with an adult university student volunteer who has a current Police Record Check.

With a maximum of four children, there is lots of opportunity to participate, contribute ideas and learn from one another.

My kiddo and I went to London Museum last week - the exhibits are beautiful right now. Lots of textiles, mixed media, photography and of course paintings. Upstairs there was one exhibit that was very hands on - scent, touch, visual, auditory - we had such a great time.

This week I am trying to focus on planning for the fall - we will have new group programming options, handwriting sessions, sensory focused sessions and even creative movement sessions! As much as I love summer, September is feeling pretty exciting 🌞
