At SNOLAB, we know that science is a team sport and we rely on large teams with technical expertise to make our experiments a reality. It was a pleasure to host Deputy Minister, David Wai from the Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security at our facility to learn about the big questions we are working to answer and to meet some of the people behind the research driving innovation in Ontario.

Drum roll please ... 🥁🥁
After the successful pilot of our new inquiry-based learning program for students in grades 4-8, we are excited to announce the new name for this program – Wonderground.
We think this new name reflects the safe space that the program creates for students to be curious, with a fun play on our underground laboratory!
This program is generously supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada PromoScience Fund.

Meet Varshini! Varshini recently completed an 8-month work term at SNOLAB working on the SNO+ experiment on various projects, including zeolite trapping for radon mitigation. When asked what she learned during her time at SNOLAB, Varshini said: “One of the coolest things I’ve learned is how sensitive low-background experiments need to be and how much effort goes into minimizing contamination”.
Varshini is now returning to the University of Waterloo to complete her third year of undergraduate studies in Nanotechnology Engineering.

Last week, SNOLAB welcomed over 20 undergraduate students from the Canadian Astroparticle Physics Summer School (CAPSS) that is hosted jointly with McDonald Institute. This week-long intensive summer school introduces students, studying at institutions across Canada, to current topics in the field of astroparticle physics. The week finishes with a workshop on low-background counting capabilities at SNOLAB and an underground tour of our laboratory.
