Today we had the chance to walk the picket line in Lindsay with the workers. Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 358 from Community Living Trent Highlands.

These workers support some of the most vulnerable people in our communities — individuals with intellectual disabilities who deserve dignity, consistency, safety, and compassionate care every single day. Sound familiar?

As educators, our members know what it means to work in caring professions that are chronically underfunded, emotionally demanding, and too often taken for granted. We know what it feels like to be asked to do more with less while still showing up every day because the people we support matter deeply to us.

Whether it’s in classrooms or community living supports, this work is relationship-based, human work. It cannot be reduced to budgets and spreadsheets. The workers on this line are fighting not just for fair wages and working conditions, but for the sustainability of the services their clients rely on.

Strong public services require respected workers. Full stop.

The Auditor-General knows what they are doing. Inclusion without support is abandonment. The Ford government is abandoning our most vulnerable students while abdicating their duty to fund schools properly. The best part is that when school boards either call this underfunding out, or fulfill their obligations by deficit spending, this government puts them into ‘Supervision’. What a shameful way to approach kids with needs, their families, and all the education workers across our Province who are demanding better.

Happy to participate in this important action in pressuring governments to take real steps to address food insecurity, food prices, and dynamic/gouging pricing.

Because affordable food, food security, and not being price gouged aren’t ‘leftist ideals’ we handed out some free grocery bags asking people to reach out to their elected officials to do SOMETHING about food prices.
